If I'm running a server, I don't even care about boot time at all.

You've apparently never had to manage a server that took 10, 20, or 30 minutes to boot up, excessively long boot up times are a common occurrence in enterprise environments. After a system update/reboot I want to be able to ssh back into the box as soon as possible, if I can't ssh back into the box within five minutes I'll typically have to lunch a recovery console or submit tickets to have hands & eyes go look at the box for me... it's a major pain in the ass. If a watchdog timer bounces a box I want it to come back up as soon as possible so I and the other service delivery teams can start troubleshooting why it failed. Fast boot on servers is very important to administrators, we have SLAs, maintenance windows, managers, customers, and service delivery teams to deal with.
