On the other hand, a single mega corp like GM... probably represents a market of roughly equal magnitude to all the 30- person businesses in the country.
This comment struck me as a big exaggeration. I believe small companies are a larger share of GDP than you think. Doing a quick google search didn't find me the perfect stats to back this up, but I found this comment from former Under Secretary of Commerce for International Trade Grant D. Aldonas:
Our 25 million-plus small companies form the backbone of our economy. They create three of every four new jobs, generate more than half of the nation's gross domestic product, and account for nearly 97 percent of all U.S. exporters.
You wouldn't last two seconds on the OpenBSD-Misc mailing list.
Was this last line supposed to be funny? Or is the OpenBSD-Misc a really tough mailing list? Do they personally insult people's mothers or something? Maybe I should use that line as my sig...
Actually I think the whole point is that Microsoft is being forced to license the source to competitors to allow them to add better compatibility to competing products. I think the users of this might be companies like Apple who can use knowledge gained from the source to improve windows compatibility in OS X. Wine might be going a little far, but I think this might have some good implications for Samba. Perhaps some companies like Red Hat, Novell, or Sun might license the software and contribute to the Samba project, although Microsoft might put something in the license to prevent licensees from contributing to FOSS projects.
There is another advantage to the yellow orange high preasure sodium lights. They aren't as big of a problem when it comes to light polution, because it is easier to filter their narrow spectrum. That makes astronomers happy because they can put fitlers on their telescopes. A lot of dark sky advocates will ask people to switch to high preasure sodium, if they have to have a light.
I know what you mean though. I do hate the way they look. The orange glow even makes trees look creepy.
On small planes the propeller is just there to keep the pilot cool. If you don't believe me, you should see how a pilot will start to sweat when it stops!
I've been geocaching a few times. I use a very simple GPS which only shows me the distance and bearing to a waypoint, and I was able to find the location of all the the caches I went looking for. I use a Garmin Forerunner which I bought to measure speed and distance while I run. Its a nice unit for running because its so small, but it doesn't have great navigation freatures, but it goes to show you can go geocaching with a simple GPS unit.
I live near Minneapolis MN, and last fall I drove up to Duluth MN to do some geocaching out of town. It was really just an excuse to go on a short road trip, but finding the caches was a fun time, and it took me to some parks and scenic views I probably would not have been to otherwise.

.net is out of the question for a serious production environment? Java is hardly fast enough? Instead you're going to use Perl, Ruby, Lisp, Smalltalk, Eiffel, Scheme, or Python?
The languages you suggest are not bad languages, but are you suggesting that you will use Scheme in a production environment? Scheme is a fun little language but a large application written in Scheme would take longer to write then a Java app, and it would run slower too!
Unfortunatly neither.net or Java are free as in freedom. If that is a major problem for you, I would look into using Mono or Apache Harmony.
Actually TFA isn't talking about F22s. When I first read the head line, I thought they meant F22s as well, but they are talking about the F35.

I think what makes this more fun than just four switches which play samples, is that the sensors are over a turntable. If they were just four sensors which you could wave your hand over or something, it wouldn't be a sequencer. Noone is saying that its a revolutionary device, but its kind of cool. If you work for science museums, you should take note, because it looks like a fun thing to play with.
If Sony dosn't know how to implement this, wouldn't the use of this technology in the Matrix be prior art? The movie makers know as much about how to do this as Sony does.
Wow that CNN story is really wrong. That IBM article is very interesting, and I think IBM is on the right track when they say "Sender identity is the spam-fighting tool of the future." Maybe somebody is finally catching on.
I'm a linux newbie, so I was wondering if there was a live CD like there was for Gnome 2.10? I haven't used KDE before, so I'd like to see what its like without changing too much on my box.
The messages do go through AOL's server by default. I just checked this with Ethereal. It makes sense too, if it was peer to peer you probably would have to open a port for it to work.

A good logging library for .NET is log4net. It is basically the same API as log4j which is a popular logging library for Java.

Personally I hate carrying coins around, and I would be really annoyed if they made more coins which were even bigger and heavier than current coins.
