Check PunBB, it's a nifty lightweight forum (with a quite clean code) and it does have phpBB migration tools (the only thing the tools can't migrate are attachments cause Pun doesn't have attachments).

Ruby has gained a LOT of momentum lately (it was virtually unknown a mere year ago in the western world) thanks to the impressive Ruby on Rails lightweight framework (where lightweight means that it's not a damn full blown J2EE heap of garbage for you Java guys).

Another nice alternative with a language that is actually worth coding in is Python, either raw (Library Guys for the win !) or using one of the numerous frameworks (Turbogears and Django are quite good, just so you know).

Yes, one can kid-of-emulate namespaces using classes (AFAIK people have done it in fucking Javascript for years !).

    But

    • It's impractical, having to jump through hoops to get a module sanely stored in it's own namespace is stupid, annoying and time consuming
    • It has many shortcomings and limitations
    • And last, but not the least, it doesn't clean the global namespace from all the fucking crap that's landed in it since the birth of PHP

To sum it up, yes you can use the oh so shiny new PHP classes to create namespaces, but that's a hack, and a quite bad one.
