  1. Re:Good Idea on Former TechTV Shows and Staff Dropped · · Score: 1

Perhaps you are not "getting it", no disrespect intended. TechTV appealed to an audience beyond gaming. There's nothing wrong with gaming and I'm sure G4 is a great station for gaming programs, but I'll never watch them because I only see them as the station that crushed TechTV and fired all the really knowledgeable people that made great tech programs.

  3. Ion vs. Chemical thrust on Ion Rocket to Map Moon with X-Rays · · Score: 1

Ion engines become more efficient the longer the distance travelled. The short hop to the moon may take longer with a 'slow' ion engine, but going to, say, Alpha-Centauri would allow enough time for that same little ion engine to appraoch a signifigant percentage of c. It would take more chemical fuel than the earth could provide to approach that (assuming you had to carry all that fuel with you).

As I've heard it, the energy of a cosmic ray (in sattelites in space... dunno about muons) can be enough to change the voltage in a small enough transistor to alter a gate outcome. I think this was discovered in satellites around the introduction of the Pentium I when transistors were getting ever smaller. This is why all new computers in space have to be "hardened".

Is there an open source voting software alternative to Diebold? A quick search at sourceforge doesn't show anything of national election quality. Is there an open source project for real voting? I'm still a student, but would donate time towards simpler coding tasks for such a project. Hell, these machines are owned by the gov't now, so they can install whatever software they like, right? I have read (prob'ly also at blackbox) that the Diebold crap runs WinXP and keeps records in Access!!!! Can't be that hard to beat. I mean, it only has to do ONE THING. This could be designed from the ground up with fair confidence of zero weaknesses, except for physical, which is where ya bring in an EE! We the people could do this!!!
