  1. Obscurity Lost on Apple's Unlikely Security Mentor: Microsoft · · Score: 1

Once Mac was safe, supposedly due to obscurity. Actually it is still reasonably safe when configured right. But Apple will not take Microsoft's path. I really see this leading to the shift from MacOS to iOS in the Macs. Completely locked down and protected by gatekeepers.

Which wouldn't be so bad. I would give Unix/BSD/Linux/GNU a new place to fight for users.

Nice, take a slight at an ethno-religious group, play on a guy who chooses to voice his disgust at the remark that he felt was directed at his ethno-religious beliefs, and slight him even more by espousing you beliefs on a religious ceremony, by asking his to ponder your personal beliefs on circumcision. Nice...I applaud you...to bad I didn't have any mod points left to bring you even more off topic. Some things are personal choice, deal with it. Now if you were circumcised by your parents choice and don't like it, sorry. If you had a botched procedure and it caused you to lose normal function, I understand your reasonings here. But if you feel so strongly voice your opinion intellectually, don't just point us over to a site advocating making a procedure that is either a religious matter or a traditional matter illegal by law. That offends me personally. If you want it to change inform people, don't ask for more laws to invade my rights to carry on a religious or social tradition. The arguments your organization sites against circumcision just are not enough to justify mandating new laws. Laws just get in the way of living. I'm sorry that this bothers a small number of you, but I assure you you are not in the majority here.

Now about DRM causing piracy... I can see that. Lets make a law banning DRM ;)

As an employee at a package and delivery business, I can tell you that packages get inspected for quite a few reasons, but less than 1% even get considered for inspection. I work in quality control, and as such inspect packages, of which most are damaged packages, and very rarely are they ever opened for any other reason.

Further more, these inspections are carried out by Her Majesty's Customs, not FedEx. All international packages are subject to customs, and customs can open any and all packages they desire, and it matters not if its sent UPS, DHL or FedEx.

A further consideration is that all major couriers comply with government regulations, and if the MPAA can get a goverment agency to write off on it (e.g. British customs) then they can carry out inspections at any courier, with or without permission. Most courier companies just willingly comply to do business in said country.

But if changing shippers makes you feel better, go for it. But your package may still be opened and inspected. Especially with USPS.

In short, FedEx, UPS, DHL, work to make money. So they comply with government requests.

Please note, read your terms of shipping from any courier. They will give the carrier permission to inspect if desired.

There are way too many options in digital audio today. I've quit caring what format I use as long as its a high quality copy and in a format that works with whatever player I choose to use. That is until we can get a mega-ipod that can compress cd's on the fly into a lossless format with a 100:1 ratio, running on Knoppix, that is supported by Bill Gates. Or we all start carrying musical instruments and start having random jam sessions on the street in stead of digital audio, but whatever. I'm fsk'in rambling now.
