and that destroying the ability of workers to bargain collectively will help our standard of living,

Actually, the average income for non-unionized workers (the majority of workers these days) is significantly lower in industries that have some unionized workers. Overall, workers' collective action has had no positive effect on the economic standing of the working class as a whole. http://www.sciencedirect.com/science?_ob=ArticleURL&_udi=B6WX8-45FK09R-9&_user=10&_rdoc=1&_fmt=&_orig=search&_sort=d&view=c&_version=1&_urlVersion=0&_userid=10&md5=55c1a737055c67e6435ca2058b847c75

This problem was addressed in the most recent issue of Wired (which is all about exploration) In fact, NASA has a whole department for making sure contamination of other planets or of earth doesnt occur. Tonight's episode must have drawn huge ratings, due to all the media buzz that Jennings was going to lose tonight. It was probably in Jeporady's interest to leak the fact that he was going to lose to the media.

hey, thanks for finding that link. If you go to the site, you can see that this is actually very well thought out and organized (an attendant is there at all times and he can override the firing mechanism, etc.). this is certainly a very interesting experiment with cyber-physical integration, though it seems a bit sick, but then again, its about the same as hunting in general.

I hope this post is being ironic, but for some reason i doubt it. What is really scary in my opinion is this sort of conspiracy theory opinion, as if the US government is controlling Google in a mass brainwashing brigade. Doubtful.

I think the networks should have called Ohio earlier. I followed the entire thing on cnn, cspan, and fox websites, and at a certain point about 90 % of the polls in Ohio were reporting, and bush had a 3 point lead. From calculations i did based on number of votes not counted, etc. it was clear that Kerry wasn't gonna win Ohio. The networks were just waiting because they didn't want to risk the small chance of having to reverse their call, like in 2000.

It hasn't affected me personally at all. Despite all the ravings from the left, i see no evidence of my precious civil liberties being cruelly violated. That isn't to say that it hasn't caused some inconvenience for immigrants and arabs, but i think most people won't notice anything different at all.
