Exactly. Only we elite slashdotters know about these things called "search engines", everyone else just types random names in their address bars. Therefore the sole purpose of TLDs is to make searching for websites easier.
The guy's making some good software (along with others) and he's giving it away freely (speech and beer). He just wanted to make some money. It's sad that now a lot of bad reputation is coming to him along with that money. I for one won't think of him badly. Quote:

Actually, more often that you might think, people are looking for the non-obvious result. Do you think everytime someone searches for microsoft they want microsoft.com? Do you think the people who don't are such a small minority that they can be ignored? And of course, a lot of times Google can be very wrong (like the other poster pointed out about searching for the vin diesel movie 'XXX'). A lot of times.
I'd expect that Google has better figures on where people go to from Google's search pages than anyone else.
No. It doesn't have any way to know which result a user clicked. It doesn't link results to its own website which redirects to the actual website, like Yahoo does (or used to, haven't used yahoo in a while). Other than that, Google can't do a better job than anyone else.
As others have pointed out, Ubuntu does use the debian-installer. The large number of packages available for Debian are maintained by a large group of people. Many of them are the developers of the programs themselves. Some (non-distro maintanence) programs are actually written only for Debian. Do you think all these efforts are magically duplicated for Ubuntu to produce newer versions of packages? They take it from debian. Most of them. Except, as I said earlier, the ones on the CD. They are newer.
Ubuntu simply contains the new debian-installer that will be in the next Debian release.
Debian testing (sarge) contain very new packages and is quite stable. That's what I use. And it's more stable than distros whose version numbers can't be stored in a 64-bit float. It contains the new debian-installer. You might claim that testing can not be used on production servers/corporate environment. But servers won't use Ubuntu, and older more tested packages are better for servers. And corporate environments will probably use something like RH.
AFAIK, many Ubuntu packages are old. In fact only the ones on the CD are newer. All the other available through download are as old or almost as old as Debian. So Debian testing actually contains newer packages.
There's nothing that makes Ubuntu easier to use that's not in Debian (at least in testing)
No one cares enough about any distro to vote for the leader. Only newbies who think they are expert Linux users don't care about distros like Debian. But I must say, these newbies seem to form the huge majority.
Yes, Debian is the Hurd of distros. Only people who aren't complete idiots and aren't full of bull-shit use it.

A person will use an extension if he needs it. Instead of going to the extensions website and finding the extension you need, you had to read a spoon-feeding-guide to know about it.
You couldn't find something you needed although it was so easy to find.
You "didn't have the time" to "poke about every feature" of the browser, but you did have the time to read a whole guide about it, which takes longer than "poking about" the features of the browser.
I still think that you're an idiot.

Then you're an idiot. You can easily find out about those and other extensions by clicking on "Get More Extensions" in the extensions dialog.
I've never seen anyone do any of that when their computer crashed. Or heard of it. Other than in movies. But then, I don't live in any of the countries (Read: USA) where the 'research' was conducted.
Wow, that's a lot of effort you've put to prove that Google's better. When I searched now, I got better results on Yahoo and irrelevant results on Google. Maybe results changed since you searched. At least it shows that Google isn't superior to other search engines. Really, I usually get pretty much the same results (as in, the 'results' of my effort) on most search engines. Google isn't better - it just has a simpler interface and some features that other search engines don't. Oh and a lot of popularity and drooling fans.
That's right, you get modded down for being correct. Don't worry, years from now people would've used 'MAC' so many times that when you correct someone they'll tell you that because of popular usage MAC has now become correct.
OMG! Oh god, I can't control my laughter. I think I'm going to crap in my pants out of sheer glee.

..., it really does. This is one of those annoying 'features'.

In fact only the ones on the CD are newer. The packages you mentioned are on the CD.
And I get modded down as troll for pointing it out. Nice moderating. Again.

Looking at this thread and how much confusion there is about what it mean, it's a bad joke.

Er, he did a product search. It means he searched Froogle for why flamingos are pink. So he wasn't lying - he was just trolling.
