Seriously? Windows RT (Windows 8 on ARM) comes with Office 2013 -- Excel, PowerPoint and Word. You apparently didn't hear about it because you haven't been paying attention -- but Office for Windows RT is rather old news.
The iPhone 4S did not have this problem. The iPhone 5 does. This is a downgrade. It isn't a DSLR vs Cellphone. It is 4s vs 5. It is Lumia 920 vs 5. Apple in the past has produced some of the better cellphone cameras. I don't think anyone here is saying iPhone==DSLR, however they are saying -- 5 should be >= 4S.
You can close Metro apps by placing your mouse in the top middle of the screen. A hand icon will appear instead of a mouse point. Click and hold, then drag the screen down to the bottom as if "throwing" it away. That is how you close metro apps.
Cross License. Microsoft spends a lot of money licensing other people's tech and in return they expect others to license their tech.
Though it does seem like it would be hard for "the little guy" to improve upon Apple or Microsoft's designs because I doubt they can afford to license Apple's patents.
And of course I don't see how you can patent a rectangle with rounded edges. It amazes me that no one rounded the corner on a rectangle until 2007/sarcasm:)
I assume you don't install punkbuster to play your steam games? All of these anti-cheat programs are scanning your PC.

I hope you realize Windows 8 has a the taskbar that behaves just like Windows 7. I am running W8 RTM and it haven't missed 7 one bit. I actually using 8 a bit more.
The major difference it the "start screen" takes up the whole screen instead of 1/8 of the screen. You can still hit start and then start typing, etc... And you can use Tablet apps on your desktop if you like them. Some of the apps from the App Store are games, etc... SoulCraft actually lets you use the 360 gamepad, etc...
I am a MSDN subscriber and enjoy Windows 8. The weekend of 8/17 I plan on upgrading my home server to Server 2012 essentials and my 3 PCs to Windows 8 RTM (have been using DP since released).
I truly enjoy Windows 8. I like the Metro look to everything -- squared off, flat graphics. I just find the look of the Windows 8 Desktop more appealing than the Windows 7 desktop.
The start screen is cool and I see it a few times a day while using my PC. My most frequent programs are pinned to my Taskbar and I don't use a ton of apps.
My biggest concern with Windows 8 is the Microsoft Account stuff. Since I am the guy who does IT in my household -- Microsoft still has not made it clear how it will handle subscriptions to Xbox Music, etc... while allowing each user in my house to use a unique Microsoft Account login. If you login into Windows 8 with a Microsoft Account and then launch Music -- it will auto log you into the Music app. You can then log out and log in with a different account, but this is annoying and would be cumbersome -- I hope I could subscribe to Xbox Music and then add sub accounts with Music persmission (maybe 5 accounts??).
Microsoft has improved many aspects of Windows 8 over Windows 7. Like all OS releases it is different and takes a bit to notice the change. After the RP was released I totally enjoyed using it more than Win7 (which I use mostly at work).
The whole "cloud" thing is going to be huge with Windows 8 and I am curious to see how non-Tech people respond. There are a lot of consquences depending on how you setup your account(s) for Windows 8 as far as usability and features go.
The biggest problem is people on the desktop are for the most part happy with Windows 7. Happy people don't want to learn something new. However, I think that once you use Windows 8 and learn some of the tricks (winkey+Q), etc... it is a better enviroment. I even use a few of the apps on my desktop (not a lot of them though).
I like the advanced taskbar options about moving the icons to the taskbar where the application is open and a few other tidbits.
As for "I can still play my games" -- it is still a beta OS with Beta drivers. So I am happy that the drivers are good enough that my games don't constantly crash.
In addition I like the start screen. I like how you can create and label groups on the start screen, I enjoy live tiles, and I find I am as fast if not faster when using the OS than I am in Windows 7.
I am also a fan of the metro design language -- I am happy to see Aero go and welcome the new flat squared off look.
I have installed the CP and now RP on my Desktop, Laptop, my Wife's Laptop and my mom's. All of us have enjoyed moving to W8. My wife does not like Metro and lives entirely in the desktop with her 4 pinned applications.
My mom on the other hand enjoys the apps and splits time between traditional Desktop IE and new Metro Apps like USA Today.
IE 10 Windows 8 Tip
In Windows 8 go to Desktop.
Load Desktop IE 10 (Desktop IE is basically IE like you use in Windows 7, just IE10).
Hit the Gear in the Top Right Corner
Select Internet Options
Click the Programs Tab
Under "Choose how you open links."
Select "Always in Internet Explorer on the desktop" and check the Checkbox "Open Internet Explorer tiles on the desktop".
I can agree with that:) I really enjoy using the Windows 8 RP at home. I am able to run all of my PC games just fine (thanks to AMD's drivers) and have enjoyed the improved multimonitor support. I actually even like some of the "apps".
WP8 announcement was for developers -- not consumers. The new consumer features outside of the new start screen will be detailed later in the year leading up to the WP8 release.
Thank motorola and Google. Motorola is trying to get money from every copy of Windows sold. So now Microsoft will have to either increase the costs of windows, eat the cost and pay motorola, or remove the software and sell it...
Yes and this is exactly why I fully expect all current WP7 devices to be upgraded. I can't imagine Microsoft would want burn the 11 million+ customers they already have.
He back tracked on his comments, but didn't say it wasn't happening. Microsoft has already demoed Windows 7 running on hardware weaker than current WP7 hardware and demoed full Windows 8 running on WP7 hardware in 2011. I believe all current WP7 phones will get upgraded to WP8. They will probably lack features like iPhone 4 doesn't have all the iOS features than iPhone 4s does, but iPhone 4 does run iOS 5.
It could also be that Science changes all the time. What was healthy to eat last year will kill you this year. In the 1970s it was global cooling, then global warming and now climate change. Science is part fact and part we will get the facts that who ever is paying for the science wanted...
Correct. Windows RT is targeted at consumers. if you want business LoB apps, Business Macros, etc... get a Windows 8 Tablet.

Windows RT is the name Microsoft gave Windows 8 when it is running on ARM chips. WinRT is the name of the new Metro framework.

That is still works perfectly in Windows 8.

The biggest change is getting use to the hot corners which is a lot like OS X.
This is exactly how I feel. I enjoy some of the metro apps, but don't really feel it is that much different from Windows 7.
Why would it need to leave their servers when they are a marketing company? They are selling our demographic information to advertisers.
Not sure about that. The game was developed as a PS3 exclusively for some time before they ported it to the 360.
