  1. Is it a bad thing really? on Lumines Heralds New Costs for Xbox Live Games · · Score: 1

Ultimately doesn't this lead to better games though.... How many crappy assed games have you bought over the years, shelved it after 2 or 3 hours of forcing yourself to try and enjoy it? If I could have all new games cost me $5 to try them out and pay a few extra bucks depending on how long/deep into it I play, isnt; that in effect promoting the survival of better games thata re more fun to play? Bad games would die quickly. There's a cottage industry of crappy games out there. Minimal cost to develop. They toss them into boxes and sell them at retail stores and bank on people not returning the crap. I know one company has changed it's name a few times because eventually people stop buying titles by the same name when they all suck. This would be the death knell for them.

  2. It'll fail for the same reason Enterprise failed on Matt Damon as Kirk in Star Trek XI? · · Score: 1

ST fans want to see WHAT HAPPENS NEXT, not what happened before.

We've had the original series. We've had The Next Generation, and DS9 and Voyager and they were all about advancing the plot and overall universe.

Enterprise was a failure before it even started. Regardless of acting and other assets (which honestly I don't think it was ever that good at) Enterprise failed to capture the imagination. We know the federation survives. We know what happens next already. There's no great mystery. There's no sense of exploration, because anywhere they go, we've see beyond it already on the prior shows.

Prequels won't work in a series about moving forward. And honestly, young'ns today don't give a rats ass about Kirk. They need something new and innovative if it's to capture them.

JJ Abrams is at the failure point of the ST franchise and lacking any sort of real vision, he's trying to scramble back and survive on the scraps left behind by Roddenberry. They should have taken up JM Strazynski on his offer and let him craft a new series in the universe and move forward. A real writer could help the franchise. But paramount turned him down saying that they thought the franchise was becomming too overstressed and needed a hiatus and take a off like 5 to 7 years. Who knew they just wanted to wait until they could build another terrible prequel.

Prequels are the refuge of those who do not know how to move forward.

    Bah

    Humbug.

    Humbug I say, HUMBUG!

I do not think that a wiki that says "We plan to add dupe checking..... and um... a way to report dupes... and what else, oh I know... a way to contect that you are the content owner, yeah that sounds good" really qualifies as a business plan and justification to start making press releases about it.

Me? I plan to make software that make any computer easy to use for anyoen of any skill level... and um... it'll work with keyboards, voice activation and mental control... and what else, oh I know... it'll predict what you want done and do it before you ask, yeah that sounds good". Does that mean I should start making press releases on Slashdot?

  4. The Fundamental Problem... on YouTube Killer (Media Portal w/ Revenue Sharing) · · Score: 4, Insightful

The fundamental problem with this business model is that even on services where there's no revenue attached, you get 20 people uploading the same videos. When you attach money to it, you can guarantee that any popular post gets re-posted 25,000 times by others hoping to make a buck. Then what happens when someone posts up entertainment skits produced by others? Now you are making revenue from someone else's works. This just seems to have a giant "TOO COMPLICATED TO SURVIVE" stamped on it's forehead.

My problems with the Honda Civic hybrid, after numerous attempts to repair it, are more serious than wear and tear issues.

Honda put the new continious transmissions in teh hybrids to make the application of the electric power more uniform and helpful. But my transmissions has been screwed up for months. It bucks and kicks like a 16 year old trying to learn how to drive a stick for the first time. No matter how many times I take it backand they say "we replaced X" and say it's fixed, it is NEVER fixd and continues to do it.

In discussions with them it's just brutally evident that their mechanics simply know next to nothing about the new technology in their own cars and this this the largest dealer in the region.

Any blind faith that is being attributed to "dealerships will know what to do when they sell them" as it related to new technology is just foolish optimisim.

    > I would think that BMW dealerships would be able to service BMW autos, > no? Yes, I understand the rush to FP, but do you think maybe they'll > have this covered by the time they go into production? Given that dealerships of gasoline/electric Hybrids already on the market for a few years don't know how to service them, I find it odd that you would take such a condescending attitude about the topic to berate someone for bringing it up. I have a Honda Civic Hybrid, 2003 model. And I've had nothing but trouble for the past 7 months over it because the Dealerships that flat out promised that they had a trained Hybrid mechanic, in actuality can't fix squat on this car. I've had it in to be serviced for the same problme so many times I lose count and they can never fix it because they simply have no real experience at fixing hybrids. > But I guess it's just easier to sit in your armchair and criticize real engineering... I guess it's actually just easier to pick at others than to actually know what you are talking about.

  8. Launch Quality on Ask City of Heroes Lead Designer Jack Emmert · · Score: 1

The launch of City of Heroes was joy to behold. Smooth. Few if any disruptions of services. No lag-fests. In this modern day and age of "Release it today, finish it next week", how did you manage to keep focus and bring about such an excellent roll-out? Was it challanging to stay the course? Also, kudos on the marketing channel oriented prestiege power effects. Goes to show how far your imagination can go with otherwise mundane aspects of a game.
