And how many people who are using Windows98 right now are even going to KNOW about Microsoft ending support for it? Or would even realize what that means?
"What will solve the idiots in the tech industry phenomenon is when the people employing those idiots can tell the difference between people who know buzzwords and people who know what they're doing.
EXACTLY. Couldn't have said it any better myself.
The irony is KILLING me. There's a banner ad for FrontPage at the top of my window as I type this. Gawd...
Yeah, tech training can't make you a real computer geek. You have to actually be INTERESTED in computers. I've learned more ON MY OWN than I have from formal techie education. Those folx who pursue an IT education because "it's a good field to be in" will always suck because they're not actually interested enough in computers to learn anything on their own. So they don't know any more than their instructors tell them...which just isn't enough. There's A LOT to learn in order to do a decent job in any tech field. If you don't have the aptitude to seek out that which you do not know (or even to REALIZE what you do not know), you're gonna suck. That guy probably didn't even realize that he needed to know HTML.
What somebody needs to do is design a course that will actually teach you all you need to know. I wonder if a CS degree program at an actual acredited university does?.... anybody know?
Oh believe me, i KNOW the problems it causes. I was a Verizon techie (yes, one of the infamous ones in Birmingham, AL) and that's not new. Verizon hasn't allowed you to send mail from a non-Verizon email address for as long as I know. I guess they're just letting people know because the Verizon techs are tired of getting bitched at because there's nothing they can do about it.
YES! My absolutely DECREPIT 2600, NES, and SNES are still in perfect working order, and I have gone through TWO playstations. I will NOT be buying a third. I have a DC and I love it. Sad to hear it go, but I expect to continue to enjoy it.
My God...what will happen to all us Capcom people who thrived on Saturn and DC ports of our favorite 2D fighters??!!
*I hate to RE-POST, but i messed up and submitted it before I finished my thought*
[b) is this new Celery that is released at 100 mhz any faster then a Celery that has been OC'ed to a 100 mhz bus.
I think not, I don't believe there are any core changes or anything to this new Celeron, just the faster bus & clock speed.]
Well how is this significan't at all? Who DOESN'T overclock their Celeron? This move was nothing. Just some paperwork for the marketing department. So the math. It's probably a good 'ol Celeron 533 that they now tell you to run at 100MHz FSB. They CAN'T expect us to believe they're actually doing something here...
There are games that I've spent many more hours playing...for example, Final Fantasy 3 (US) and Vandal Hearts. For whatever reason, I've beaten those two games so many times, I'm embarassed to tell the number. But there has only been one game that no matter how hard I tried, I absolutely could not tear myself from: Civilization II. I would say that I'm only gonna play 10 more minutes, because I need to start on that paper. But when the ten minutes was up, I'd say to myself, "Well, let me just finish building Leonardo's Workshop." After I was done building that, I'd look at my watch and say, "Ok, I'll quit after I build up my forces enough to defend against those Mongol bastards on the top continent." But how much is enough? This brutal cycle would countinue until I could no longer hold my eyes open, and my body begged for sleep. Then I'd start my paper. But where it would normally take my 5 hours to do a paper like that, I would get it done in about two, because it's never too late to do a bad job. =)
I agree wholefartedly. I've had a V3 2000 for about 9 months now. But when the Geforce2 MX came out, I actually decided to try it. I had huge problems with the drivers in Linux AND in 'doze. It wrecked my 'doze installation and I ended up selling the thing and DOWNGRADING back to the V3 2000! I pledged to never again become an nVidiot.
I do however feel that this could be a good thing in the end for us, the customers. Hopefully, they'll continue using 3dfx technology...I've enjoyed their products greatly, and would hate to see them take the voodoo line off the shelves for good.
EXACTLY. I bought a GF2MX thinking that my Voodoo3 was out of date. But i've figured out that for my purposes, it's just as good and even better. I was getting 80fps in UT with the V3...60 with the MX. I also couldn't overclock the thing without crashes related to nvdsp.drv
I sold the MX yesterday, and I'm actually DOWNGRADING back to the V3.
Thanks for bringing up the point about the monitor's refresh rate. Not sure that people realize that you CAN'T see 90 fps if the refresh rate of the monitor is 75Hz.
I think it's the happy ending.
Longevity = evidence?
Not even CLOSE to how science works.
Exactly.

I hate that damned paperclip, too. I always change it to the cat. =)
Hmmm....somebody's gonna hafta draw me a picture
