I wouldn't be suprised, as much booze and drugs that group did, they really aren't aware of it yet, their attorneys are(read benefactors, illegitimate children etc). I'd figure them 5-7 years behind the times and all still thinking they are touring, it's been a long crazy ride.

Well, he does post his finding, and everyone i've seen who tried to replicate the same tests have failed to even come close to his posted results. You can try and see what you come up with as well if you go here: http://blogs.zdnet.com/Ou/?p=119 and download what he used. I tried these tests, and came close to his findings once, and i'm running a much slower machine. I'd have to say he's "fixing" his results in favor of office, but thats only my opinion, you can do the test yourself and see how they vary.

  7. Re:Another windows bashing idiot on The Microsoft Protection Racket · · Score: 1

Not to mention, if they start charging for the fixes, how many people do you think would pay, or for that matter, would update their system anyways. The updates are free now, and more often then not, they aren't even close to the last 3 months of the latest patches(even sometimes it's been 6 months since i've seen them, even after showing them what to do, and they haven't patched since). I see that if they charged it would be even worse for us who know how to keep the systems updated, all these unpatched machines running wild(which i wont complain about myself, as i make 75% of my consultancy fees from this aspect). I think the people who have to pay for the support from companies or people like me will get a very bad taste in their mouth if this does in fact take shape against MS and their software.

Just a personal opinion from seeing it with my own eyes. People blame MS for not patching the OS themselves(users, not MS here), not following normal updates and such. This gives them a bad taste every time they see the invoice from my company. "Why doesn't MS do this for me?" with the answer "stop disabling the auto update feature and they would do this for you". No matter what they wont blame themselves, they blame MS, but they also never do anything about it. Unfortunately more often then not, responsibility is not taken for their deeds, but it's easier to blame someone else.

Not to mention that the migration to Office 12 for Mass would cost $50 Million, and the full cost extimated for the OpenDoc and applications that support it was $5 million. The numbers themselves explain the biggest advantage to the whole deal.

it works to get people to go to openings or things of that notion. Send an email with a link to the avast free AV for home users, and tell them to install it. It will update itself and they wont even have to touch it. Find a free program like adware that updates itself, or if they run MS(yes i kow, but some do), make them get the giant antispy that updates itself and protects while surfing. If it's free, they will do it normally. I get the same question day in and day out, "what would you recommend for home AV and spyware?", to which i respond if MS, use avast and MS AntiSpy(Giant). It's free, does all the work, and should help you out quite a bit.
