But it seems to me that key based authentication mediates this risk. Am I the only one that does this? What the heck does everyone think ssh is for? I use password authentication the very first time I access a server. I put my pub key there, then disable password authentication. My private key never leaves the thumb drive I wear around my neck. Being a CHL holder, it is very unlikely you'll get to that without leaving your DNA and most probably grey matter all over the place. Plus, my cat sets my passwords.
Now if there were only better ways of ensuring that the money we pay for CDs and DVDs ends up mostly in the hands of the artists, rather than in the fat pockets of the big corporations that still mostly control the distribution channels.
I so totally agree with this. My daughter and by fiat myself are involved in the entertainment industry. So far we have limited ourselves to independent films, PSA's and such. But she keeps wanting and hoping to be picked up by Disney. I so hope that does not happen, in a way.
So far she has not made much money. But at least what she has made has been fair. Small independent production houses tend to treat their talent more fairly than the big names. Faith based production houses tend to be the most equitable ones. One can make a living in those industries. Just don't expect to get filthy rich from it.
For the true artist, the money is just a necessary secondary concern. The main thing is performing the art. I guess that is why it is so easy for the big money guys to tke advantage of them.

This rule is applicable to most software releases. Avoid.0 releases. In Ubuntuland the X.10 releases tend to equate to X.0 releases. I tend to only upgrade on LTS releases.
This is the kind of attitude that gives Linux a bad rap. Just because someone wants to use Linux doesn't mean they should have to learn to compile their own software. If that's the case then GNU/Linux will never make a formidable dent in the desktop market amongst "regular" users.

I only open a terminal because for alot of things it is faster that pointing and clicking my way thru. fact is, on the netbook I am using at this moment, I have never dropped down to the terminal. BUt it is there if I want too.

The scientific problem I had the most issue with was the "super-nova" that destroyed Romulus, enveloping it. Was it in the same solar system? The problem is, that collapsing the star into a black hole will with some kind of exotic matter not prevent the gamma ray burst. They are caused by the acceleration of matter by the gravitational collapse of the star.

Well there are currently only a dozen or so viruses for Linux. Linux's design, being based on Unix is truly multiuser and more secure than in Windows. I am not one to say that Linux will never be compromised. But it requires more work to crack a Linux box that a Windows box. I still run clamav on my internet facing machines.
But all in all Linux is more secure. Also, if a user does get a virus, the damage is limited to the specific user's data. So if you share your computer with your child, and that child goes to a bogus game site and contracts a virus, the damage done by the virus is limited to the childs files.
How in the world do Windows Users live without multiple virtual desktops? This is a great usability feature missing in Windows that Unix has had since it's first GUI desktop environment.
WoW is one of the Windows Games that runs fine on Linux under WINE. WINE is a port of the Windows API to Linux. My daughter plays Zuma, Bejeweled and a host of other games on my Linux Laptop.
Things that might trip you up.
Accelerated 3D Graphics is my biggest personal pain. I am strongly addicted to DOOM3. It runs fine on the desktop machine that I specifically built to be a Linux gaming machine with NVIDA graphics using the proprietary NVIDIA Graphics Driver. But DOOM3 is unplayable on my prebuilt laptop using ATI Graphics and the ATI Proprietary 3D driver. Having said that, most other 3D apps run fine on both, including WoW.
Some people seem to have problems with Wireless Network. I haven't had problems with that in a couple of years.
New harware may not be supported under Linux until a Kernel hacker produces a driver for it.
Some Windows applications will not run under WINE. These are mostly games or heavily graphic apps.
Now, I left MS Windows behind for Linux in 1996 and never looked back. I have never had a malware issue on Linux. In that time my famliy has lost 7 Windows machines to viruses and worms.
Thermocouples definiately do not violate SLoT. I in fact have used thermocouples and thermopiles to power low drain electronic circuits. It does require a bit of heat. And not all heat is converted. But it can happen and *does not* violate Second Law of Thermodynamics.
Polar bear are nothing but grizzly bears whose coats have turned white to adapt to their environment. There is no real separate and distinct species. Not like grizzlies and Brown bears. Polar bears *are* grizzles with white fur. They will most likely migrate south, learn to eat salmon once again and continue just fine with the *rest* of the grizzlies.

Now, if you really want something to worry about, consider the impending erruption of the Yellow Stone Cauldron volcano or the cyclic pole reversal that is nearly over due. You wanna worry about the end of the world? Those ought to do it for ya. And nothing we do or didn't do can cause nor prevent it. Those, like cyclic global warming just are. No grand conspiracy. Nothing the democrats mor republicans can do to hasten nor prevent it. It just is.
