that's the way of television (although enterprise is pretty crappy).

it's the same reason arrested development will be cancelled as will the US version of the office. don't look forward to new episodes of those two shows next season.

along the same lines, i think some people just need to give it up and realize that nothing (nothing!) will run forever. franchises sour over time and star trek long ago missed its opportunity to retire gracefully ala bill waterson or gary larson. there is, however, still hope. just let gene's show die. let gene's franchise go away and leave the memories of TNG and Voyager (the two decent post-original series in the franchise).

you could try googling for the pdf and then use the "view as html" option.

i tried to find it but google hasn't cached the pdf yet. (i tried the search string whitepaper filetype:pdf site:igda.org and it came up with nothing)

you could try digging through this search string though:

so as i read your post i mapped out this train of thought:

mmorpg's are addictive --> the most hardcore gamers get addicted to them but ultimately become disillusioned with stale gamepla --> developers should cater to the hardcore gamers and feed their addiction, thus further distending them from the world of real human interaction.

is that right? just trying to clarify here.

We haven't seen Microsoft change. Although the message it's getting across has changed, everything is still running as normal back at Redmond.

the point is that the image has changed. not the company. companies hire PR people to help change their image all the time and they don't change a thing concerning how they operate.

well he goes to school and work and such... but every night his door is slightly ajar and the only light emitting is the blue-glow of his crt and i can hear the faint screams of enemies dying. don't get me wrong here, it's no better than what i do all day in my room (read /. and other sites, irc and im, read books, listen to records) but i do it in a fully lit area that isn't littered with food remnants and dirty clothes. i guess it just comes down to the aesthetic of the situation: 1) slightly overweight guy slumped over with no shirt on playing WoW in the dark. 2) skinny guy wearing a complete outfit of clothes sitting up in a chair reading a book.

well damn, that's a nice little list of what makes this game playable (almost makes me want to play it myself). do you have any reason as to why my roommate hasn't left his room in what seems to be two months? wouldn't this be construed as a "con"? he sits in the dark leveling his paladin like there's no tomorrow. i guess it's kind of hard to have an idea of what "tomorrow" is when you go to bed at 4:00 a.m. and it's already the next day.
