It's sounds like you're saying that because the ACLU defended Rush Limbaugh's privacy that the entire right wing of politics aught to support the ACLU when they go up against the majority, rather than paying attention to the issue at hand, much like you have done.

Your analogy to the phone company is absurd. It would be more accurate to say that the phone company is forced to offer caller ID, or an anti-solicitation service. I'll point out that the ACLU never stood opposed to the national do-not-call database, despite the business interests. As it is, the content-filtering companies based here in Utah stand to gain from this.

Orrin Hatch has done a great job. You must be a druggy. Only a druggy could have as much hatred for Orrin Hatch, and use as much senseless rhetoric as you do. Why don't you go "medicate" yourself.

I guess that's why we have the ACLU, to protect ordinary American's from disgrace and embarassment by taking it all upon themselves.

  4. I will give you the real explanation as an insider on ACLU to Challenge Utah Porn-Blocking Law · · Score: 1, Flamebait
I live in Utah, I'm not LDS.

I worked for a company here in Utah who I will not mention by name, they started up back in 98 or so with the primary purose of developing a database of websites with a more refined policy management interface, for example, you could filter out only all the hate related sites if you wanted, unlike Rulespace(tm) of California which used a more general policy. It was a combination of AI and human interaction to develop the database. They market products which can run at the ISP level or on the individuals computer.

To make a long story short, the company screws over everybody they do business with, including their employees. Ethics apparently meant nothing to these guys. I wouldn't be surprised if this is an effort to increase the company's revenue by lobbying for laws like this, a practice I disapprove of.

    HOWEVER...

As other's have suggested, it's like the V-chip. It's opt-in. All the ISP has to do is bundle content-filtering software with their installation CD, or post a link to it on their website, hidden in the FAQ section. It is painfully obvious what the ACLU is really going after here. They are protecting the rights of businessmen to show pornography to minors and clobbering a parent's right to guard their kids from pornography.

Don't underestimate the lethality of tritium. It is the only risky substance associated with a fusion reactor, tritium escaping into the atmosphere behaves the same as the strontium-90 released after an atomic bomb, it will contaminate drinking water, if your battery springs a leak it is still very capable of killing you, slower than a CO leak but much more potent in terms of volume. I don't know why the wikipedia article claims tritium is formed naturally in water when cosmic radiation hits deuterium, all significant amounts ot tritium formed in seawater has been as a result of nuclear bomb testing, there is no significant natural formation. In the real world, tritium would be formed in a nuclear reactor, not "harvested" from the ocean as a result of natural cosmic radiation bombardment. So like someone pointed out above, these batteries would be expensive, but if properly contained could be plenty safe, just don't assume tritium is a harmless gas, compare it to drinking the contents of a lead acid battery. I'll also point out that I'm not opposed to this, nor any other form of nuclear energy. It is just a matter of proper containment and disposal.

I have been programming computers for 3 or 4 years, a year ago I started on a business degree, I might also go for art. My reasoning is this:

I already know a whole lot about computers, more than most undergrads. Probably more than most masters. I find internet resources to be better than most books coming off the printing press these days, joining a few mailing lists, participating in open source software development, infinitely more informative than some instructors material. So I will get a business degree (MBA), and get in on these fortunes being made with emerging technology.

Plus a business degree is much easier to do in the off hours I am not working. CS degrees tend to be tailored to full time/daytime students, who don't have jobs. I expect when I'm done with my undergrad degree I will be much better off than most CS majors, with my 5+ years of work experience and all. Like others have stated, kids that go to school on mommy and daddy's tab don't seem to have a clue. You have to spend another year teaching them everything they didn't learn at school. If I were hiring people, I would hire the guy who went to school while he worked full time to support his family.
