    Even if it stalled ... 30,000 feet should be enough to recover, methinks.

    The only way it can fall at that rate for a whole three minutes is if something catastrophic has happened to the structure making it impossible for the pilot to recover.

    (Or if something catastrophic has happened to the pilots)

    As a police friend of mine says, if you're going to commit a crime, do it just once and make it worthwhile. The people who get caught are the ones who have to keep going back to do it again.

    Um, having a low latency doesn't necessarily affect download speeds for large files.

    Internet Protocol has this thing with sliding windows, etc., to deal with that.

    I just bought an Alienware laptop on the assurance that I'd "get used to it".

    I hate it, I really do.

    I've tried...but after three minutes I'm crosseyed looking at it. The fact that it was expensive only makes things worse.

    It's much simpler than that:

    Consumers know that 'widescreen' is better for TV.

    They think that widescreen is therefore better for a computer as well. QED.

    No, they haven't really thought about the shape of the web pages they spend all day scrolling up and down. They also don't seem to see that half of the screen is white most of the time.

    Every time I ever dared say matte screens were better on Slashdot I got flamed by people saying that "colors are FAR more saturated and vibrant with a glossy screen". Now there's a whole article saying glossy is crap and not one person is disagreeing.

    Reducing your meat consumption by just 20% is equivalent to buying a Prius (except you'll be healthier because of it and won't be avoided at parties).

    The meat you eat is responsible for more greenhouse gas than driving a SUV everywhere.

    The packets don't have to be unopenable, it just has to take more energy to open them than you'll get from eating the contents.
