Whenever I read the news every new fuel consumption target or windfarm a politician tries to introduce is beaten down by the auto manufacturers or hordes of NIMBYs. Maybe they are raising standards but it's going to take an *awful* long time for things to improve at this rate...
Pixels aside, I don't think any other game has ever replicated the feeling of shotgunning a room full of imps (and it still works today just as well as it worked back then).
If pixel resolution was the only important thing in a game you'd be right.
OTOH I think the game the weapons/sounds/enemies/maps of DOOM are still among the very best ever. Certainly better than, eg., Alien Swarm (which is fashionable at the moment).
If DOOM was released tomorrow with better graphics you'd be all, "Best game ever!"
PS: Does anybody know if there's a version of DOOM with, say, double or triple resolution sprites? I know there's a bunch of "ports" out there but all the ones I've tried are like "ports" of Space Invaders or Pacman. They might look like Space Invaders/Pacman but there's always something wrong with the gameplay, some little rule or nuance which they don't quite follow. I want original Doom, higher resolution... (please!)

Do they also drop when you point out the 3" tall sequence of number on the front/back of their car is unique to that car and easily readable by roadside cameras, the police or passers-by using built-in organic sensors?
I think they have some sort of requirement to read them, not bin them, maybe even to reply as well. I wrote a couple of letters to my MP when I lived there (by post - this was the 1980s). Both times I got a canned response letter.
Oh, I see... you have to be a technical person to understand the changes?
As a simpleton I guess I didn't notice the enhanced support for Non-Uniform Memory Access and the fact that each process can now have multiple thread pools. I guess that really is a "wow!", how could I be so stupid?
Experiments have shown that chimpanzees can do as well as the "smartest" humans in the stock market. Throwing darts at a copy of the Wall St Journal works just as well, or even a chimp throwing darts
The only winners in the stock market are people with inside information and the stockbrokers who take a percentage of every trade (and they're the ones who are advertising stocks as a good way to make money).
a) They released Vista first (should never have been released)
b) LOADs of minor niggles and things that are now *worse* than XP, especially in Windows Explorer - the front end to the files, the most important thing in the machine and the only thing an OS should do really well.
I'd make a list but I can't be bothered and there's probably hundreds of web pages dedicated to it.
c) What exactly makes it better then XP? Where exactly is the "wow!"? The only things I can think of are a slightly better taskbar with previews and the ability to type in the 'start' menu. Everything else seems like a pointless renaming and reshuffling. Is that it? Billions of dollars and eight years spent for that...? I'm looking around at all my collection of now-useless hardware and wondering if it was really worth it.
The only reason I upgraded was I needed 64-bits to work with some big files. Apart from that I'm not the slightest bit more productive with Windows 7 then I was with XP.
They don't even deter people - most criminals simply don't believe they're going to get caught.
I think prison should only be for violent offenders, people who would hurt others. Everybody else should be tagged, privileges taken away (eg. no going out partying) then made to do community service and fix the country up u bit. That would be far more rehabilitating than being locked in a place full of people who are constantly attacking you (both verbally and/or physically).
For the rapists it's a perk to while away the long nights, one that the guards mostly turn a blind eye to....and that's almost worse than the fact that people are being raped in the first place.
Problem is: The rest of the USA lampoons California as a bunch of loonies every time they Do The Right Thing.

Sure you need carbon, he's just figured out that some plants were using a lot more of it than others. Those were the ones he closed.
I prefer to think of it as "devil's advocate"...
"What happens when *all* countries have tighter manufacturing limits in place"
The West will look even more shortsighted/ridiculous than it already does...?
If America is the self-proclaimed "leader of the free world" then why isn't it leading by example?

Doom's weapons/enemies/sounds/maps are perfect.

The $€£ is still king.
Could've sworn there were adverts on the telly saying "The Wow Starts Now!" with lots of non-technical people going "Wow!".
Still, ACs always know best.

Yep, the controls/weapons/enemies/levels/sounds are still perfect. I don't think they've ever been beaten.

It's certainly better then, say, Alien Swarm (which seems fashionable right now).
Sure ... if pixel resolution is the only thing that counts in a game...
Yep. There's still no feeling like shotgunning imps in any other game I've played. I think it's partly the sound they make when they die as well.
Blam! Oooo!

I've got DOOM II on my laptop.

Yeah, I meant DRM games. What's the rate for DRM games?
(facepalm)
Just so we can compare...
Is it bad that the plants have escaped or is it bad the some American corporation is going to make less money next year?
"the smart move is to buy while...."

Today's prisons don't rehabilitate anybody.
