I'll theorise that Google Checkout isn't just a method of getting a piece of the on-line payment pie (such as Paypal), but a way to connect the ads to the sales in some way in the future as well. This could cut down on the click fraud which plagues Google.
This is of course not straightforward, but my guess is Google is working that angle too.
Don't forget those, as well. Spry is being released under an OS license. All this makes it very difficult to pick a simple, efficient framework to base future projects on.
*Sigh*
1. Typing is faster - I (touch-) type much, much faster than I write, not the least because I can watch the blackboard while I'm writing. 2. I can find anything I need in instants instead of having to wade through forests of treeware 3. I can print out a nice, well-structured, revised version for off-line and archival purposes.

Apple to Buy out Palm?

· Score: 2, Insightful
Right on.
How does Palm investors want to sell Palm to Apple become speculation that "Apple plans to buy handheld maker Palm"...?
I don't see Apple having any desire to acquire Palm. Steve Jobs' obsession with style and the holistic approach of complete solutions doesn't seem compatible with the nuisance of acquiring a new platform and having to dilute its efforts in the audio/video market.
Sure, the Palm investors would love to sell the company to Apple; after all, the PDA market share has been decreasing. I think we would sooner see some hybrid device with a concise set of features from Apple than a company sale.
put out to bid? Well yes, they established metrics, didn't follow them when they it out to bid, then Telcordia skewed the metrics even more so that Verisign seemed the best deal.
Well, there seemed a lot more love between ICANN and Verisign when they negotiated the.NET deal. I guess ICANN considered Verisign the lesser of two 'evils'?
I suspect the dubious methods ICANN used to engineer the.NET bid so that it would remain in Verisign's hands would be one reason for the EU to want to see the control pried from U.S. hands.
The whole matter reeks of corruption in my view. Here are a few links, FYI...:
That's what GMail does today, so where's the weak link? IM, where people do communicate a lot of information which gets lost to those who don't keep logs. There's already a very usable Webmessenger for MSN. Having this server-based means the log are available from anywhere. Heck, just getting rid of having a separate e-mail and IM program filling up my RAM my well be worth it.
Not necessarily. As TFA points out, they'll phase in intel chips on the Mac Mini in 2006, with the others (possibly IMO) later on. It's clear from the article you refer to that Apple needs a low power chip, and instead of creating a hybrid G4/5 an Intel conversion may be more sensible.
Also, from a hardware perspective, Intel makes sense for the Mac Mini. It's a cheap commodity appliance with next to no upgrade possibilities making driver supply less of an issue for it. They might let the Mini do or they could go the full Monty. Any way they're putting pressure on IBM and at least the PC market has two fiercely competing chip manufacturers.
My point is that with an equivalent die size a multicore CPU would perform better. Each of the eight SPE is a vector processor, not a fully-fledged processor, so that's why I think graphics-orientated distributed processing would gain more from the Cell than many other uses.
I'd be curious though to know whether distributed genome sequencing projects for example could put those SPE's to good use.
...could be admitted as evidence of criminal intent
Is owning a video camera evidence of criminal intent? What about digital cameras? Compression programs? Bittorrent? Computers? Electricity?
Granted this case deals with very serious offenses, but being labeled as a (would-be) criminal simply for having encryption-capable software a computer I find quite ludicrous.

... we'll have custom HyperTransport socket FPGA chips to boost Opteron systems coming out of http://www.drccomputer.com/ real soon.

Yes, they had an announcement lately.

and for me, finally web-based Google IM my prediction came true

I'm all for OpenOffice, but I think OOo1 includes Quickstarter by default.
If not, those are fine numbers...

Combine Linux and Cell rack clusters and I can see some awesome possibilities here for animated and CG movie making.
The Cell's units may not be the best at serving up db data and files but applying it to frame processing could yield some pretty good performance.
... go to jail
It will be interesting to see what Google's next move will be. This also validates the concept. I'll be sticking with Google though.
I do hope we'll be seeing Google extending their coverage more.
A Sabot round would be preferable against a tank than a HEAT, whether a shaped-charge round or kinetic energy penetrator.
