it is because for some, there is no limit (in +ve sense). They dont reach a stage and conclude they have earned enough, but strive for something more. They have a determination, and an infinite apetite for more, as there are lots more to be achieved, if everyone thought I have done my part for my lifetime, we would have been more backward
Yahoo must be confused as to whether it should be happy or sad, happy that it had invested in the then startup called Google, or sad that the small baby has overtaken the daddy himself!
I mean, there is MS which admits its s/w has bugs after every cat and dog knows about it, and here is Intel, which talks about its bug even before the product is released!
I remember a similar article here discussing the usage of portable gadgets at workplace, like iPod, camera cell phones, etc and many stated that their workplace does not allow such gadgets in "certain" areas, and they had to actually check them out before entering the premises..

so there is no guarantee that they wont turn in the records of who uploaded "illegal" music from where.. dont expect Google-like daringness to refuse to share the info, as their privacy st. is pretty obvious.
how different is this from online radio? I could customize my station, pay a small charge (say for Yahoo music) and get to rent most of the artists! and I dont need to upload (imagine gigs of upload) anything nor worry about their servers.
anything new here? except for that I might have to spend some time customizing my playlist on my radio, but it sure is shorter than uploading
byw this Robertson (CEO/prez) is the same guy behind Linspire.
I meant I knew the extent of capitalistic influence, but so much that it affected the decisions on OSS was somewhat a shock to me (considering the OSS scene is pretty active here)
people did take them seriously, so seriously that they were interviewed by TIME, for more story, over to this link, but alas I think it was short-lived.. now they are kinda reduced to ISP and stuff
quoting wikipedia: "A program called "Elk Cloner" is credited with being the first computer virus to appear "in the wild" -- that is, outside the single computer or lab where it was created. Written in 1982 by Rich Skrenta, it attached itself to the Apple DOS 3.3 operating system and spread by floppy disk."
And, "The first PC virus was a boot sector virus called (c)Brain, created in 1986 by two brothers, Basit and Amjad Farooq Alvi, operating out of Lahore, Pakistan. The brothers reportedly created the virus to deter pirated copies of software they had written."
imagine if the prof also did the same, and the same person (from rent-a-coder.com) happens to solve for the student as well, its a win-win situation for him:)

Summing it: "European companies seem to value the flexibility of open source solutions, while American companies value the savings."
That is good, but somewhat disturbing. Is US economy so money-centric despite its capitalistic nature?
"The Blank Slate", and "How the Mind Works", both by Steven Pinker
