The germans per se don't approve. Politicians here, however are on the same stupid anti-terror craze they seem to be elsewhere, too. You know what I mean, giving up a little liberty for a little more security... hell yeah, great idea.
As someone living in Bavaria, i am sure pissed about this. Even if it does not run on Linux, still, everyone suffers from this loss of freedom.
Seems for some of those security-crazy folks the gestapo might just be a nice example of how to do things right...
Dems always suck on IP issues and censorship. That's been the case for decades. They think of the children waaaay too much. If anybody really thought of children, they'd never even discuss censorship. Our children need and deserve a world without it...
The only people that still do amazing stuff in the trek franchise are probably those writing the books. There are great stories, a lot of continuity and they're exploring new possibilities. I would hope that a new television series or even a movie would use some of that writing talent, but sadly, i don't see that happening...
I know exactly what you are talking about. I have set up and do administrate (if neccessary) the computers for both my parents. The change from M$ to open office may indeed seem small for most of us here, but for users with little experience in computers (i.e. those who use them as nice modern typewriters and maybe for an occaissional email) it may be a big step. My parents needed some time to work out the little differences in handling between microsoft office and open office - and noticed many little differences i didn't even notice because they seemed trivial to me. So maybe doing the migration from a microsoft-dominated infrastructure to a fully-fleged linux-system in two steps may not be that bad an idea!
hmmm... doesn't directX belong to that software manufacturer from redmond? the one that does not like to share? sadly, that is why i don't see a linux-port of directX in the near future...:-(
not only good for children......if i think about it, i think i'm going to get my several boxes full of LEGO out of the storage room over christmas. probably a lot more fun than all those reruns on tv, and maybe even the good old computer will not have my full attention then;-)

Internet penetration? Is that a new definition of cybersex???
If you would disregard all the evidence, you might as well believe the world was created 5 minutes ago by a spaghetti monster.
And so it was. All hail the spaghetti monster and its noodly appendage!

there would be a difference if that were so. However, most people who download music do not stop buying compact discs or dvds... i think.

Now, if M$ finally doubled the number of bits, what did they do about the number of bugs?
