From my own experience with cheap photo paper and cheap, non Epson ink in off-the-shelf cartridges - the colours are awful, the printing can be fuzzy, and I've no idea how long the printouts will last. So I just stick with the Epson stuff...
I noticed the same thing. I have a relatively cheap Canon printer and photo prints are incredible with Canon ink. Normally the cartridges are $10 per color but I one time I tried $2 generics and they don't compare.
I found that it's cheaper to use professional digital photo printing services instead of doing it myself. I only print my own if there's custom work to be done (I did my wedding invitations this way). I've had my printer for a little over a year and I only had to replace the cartridges once.
People have the choice whether they want content filtered or not, but the ISP is legally responsible to ensure their list of offensive sites is maintained. That doesn't seem like a trivial task.
Why is there so much censorship? If you don't like it, don't watch (or listen to) it. If you don't want your kids to be exposed to porn, don't let them browse the internet or watch TV without supervision. That's equivalent to letting a kid roam a large city by himself..
Though I don't agree with their automatic gratuity added to your bill. What incentive does a waiter/waitress have to provide good service when they're guaranteed 18% gratuity? I guess if something is completely screwed up, you can always raise the issue with the restaurant manager though they're not obligated to do anything (unless they want to keep you happy).
Any slashdot nerd should be running their own web server where you can host whatever files you want, completely independent of proprietary interfaces by Yahoo or Snapfish.
Is it legal to drive around a truck equipped with a bunch of lasers and beam them all over a city?
If we can't point our simple cheapo laser pointers at incoming planes, why is it OK for Google to drive around with a truckload of lasers (and most likely NOT your typical measly laser pointer). What if a plane is flying overhead while google is doing their laser mapping.
I guess I wasn't clear. All my federally-subsidized loans (Stafford and Perkins) were consolidated right after I graduated, and I was able to take advantage of low interest rates (3.25% I believe).
I took out ANOTHER personal loan through Citibank. The interest on this loan WASN'T subsidized by the government and I had to pay interest while I was in school (or I could have left it accumulate on top of the principal)
Most lenders will be happy to consolidate your federally-subsidized loans, but I already did that. I'd like to refinance my non-federally subsidized personal citibank loan through another lender at a fixed rate, but I haven't found a lender who will do that.
My financial aid office? Uh... I graduated three years ago.
I maxed out the federal loans (stafford and perkins, about $24000 i believe) and I had to take out a private loan through Citibank. I looked into the issue a while back, and from what I found it was not possible to refinance the non-federally-subsidized loans.
So what am I supposed to do? I have student loans through Citibank, and my only choice to sever my ties with them is to pay off my loan in full, which I can't do at this time.
Just exactly how am I supposed to 'take a stand'? Believe me I'd love to, but I feel there's nothing I can do. I'd like to get a loan through another company, however I don't know of any credit union or smaller banks that do anything like that.
On Continental flights, if you're a Verizon Wireless customer you can use their Verizon Airfone for $0.10 a minute if you pay the $10.00 monthly subscription fee.
Not a bad deal if you cannot go a few hours without a telephone.
Yes. To make matters worse, I was driving a CMU van when I was pulled over (rather I was stopped at the bottom of the hill by a cop waving his flashlight - right behind three or four other people). I was coming from one of the side streets. I made a right turn onto Forbes Ave down the hill maybe 200 feet from the place where they clocked me.
I once got a ticket for going 35 in a 25. This was down a hill. I was 'lucky' because the DA (or whoever it is who does the legal work for the Pittsburgh traffic court) reduced it to 30 in a 25.
There's not much of a difference between 35 and 25 miles per hour, especially on a straight mile-long gradual hill.
Believe me, I've thought about that, but isn't that technically 'stealing'?
I would rather have my own internet connection and manage it myself. In addition, I don't know who is actually running the connection. I live in a big apartment complex. I don't have any DF equipment to track down the source of the signal either.
Where I live, I can't even get DSL! I still have a choice though - pay $42.95 a month for Comcast cable or go without internet (or leech of the neighbor's unprotected wireless network...)
I've heard from many people how great this thing is. I'm in need of a wireless router and I want to get one. Anyone know what a good price is? Circuit City has them for $39.99 after $30 of mail-in-rebates.
I have Sirius and an iPod. I currently use my iPod as a portable hard drive, and use my 256MB flash MP3 player to listen to music (iPod is TOO big for the gym). I use my Sirius tuner in my car all the time.
The DJs on Sirius are rarely talking and never rude. I like satellite radio because as opposed to a playlist on my iPod, it plays new music that I may have never heard otherwise.
My iPod is a pain in the ass. Even with 17GB of music I get bored with most of it rather quickly.
It's a great portable hard drive, and fortunately I didn't waste any money purchasing it (won it in a contest).
As of now it isn't since XM has 3 times the subscribers of Sirius. We'll have to see in the future though.
How many of those XM subscribers are free 3 month trials that came with their new car purchase?
I'm guessing their numbers include all their listeners, including the free trials. If that's the case, there's not really an accurate way to compare the two.
Excuse me? There's a lot of good stuff on Sirius that's not no name stuff and not top 40. There are a few channels that play top 40, but there are a lot more that play other music that isn't "no name stuff". Besides, some no name stuff is good and I would hear much of it (in my car at least) without Sirius.
$12.xx a month is well worth it to not have to suffer through commercials.
Is Netscape 8 bundled with AOL, AIM, Winamp, and RealPlayer? There's nothing better than installing a new browser and having "TRY AOL FOR FREE" appear all over the place.

All they need to do is repackage Fruit Looooooooooops

Of course, that's far from the perfect solution.

I don't need internet THAT bad. I'd rather put the money toward the purchase of a GameBoy Advance to keep me occupied.

What page was that graphic originally displayed on?

Marge: Bart, don't make fun of grad students! They just made a terrible life-choice...
Any Simpsons fans on /.? :-)

Don't forget about the NHL, though what good are broadcasting rights when there are no games played?
I wouldn't hear much of it
