Set the system to optimize for performance (which turns off aeroglas, among over things) and turning off sidebar, and you have reasonable performance. Yeah, i'm sure in that. Vista SP1 probably will be a huge improvement. Why, I installed XP only after SP2 came out! (I'm not a pure Linux user, as I do play Windows games). i just say, early adopters suck bigtime with Vista, and among them are the future Ubuntu users. One of my colleagues considered Vista (he is a big movie fan), but he'll surely use Ubuntu once it can play HD stuff. DRM scares the living shit out of him.
>I don't undersand the comment about XP SP3. To the best of my knowledge, it is in beta test release. I would expect that it should release to the market in 6 months or so. People running XP SP2 should update. Well, last year it was so that XP will be cancelled. I explained my wish to continue with that old plan. M$ would help FOSS much more if they stop supporting XP:) It is a pity they are still supporting XP, heh.
>While the listed retail price for Windows is ~ $200, I rather expect that the incremental price from a hardwave vendor in the US is $50. In China and third world areas, it will probably be much loser. I don't know how this connects with my earlier post. I'm not buying any new M$ software, XPSP3 will be free:) By the time it runs out, hopefully game developers will wake up and provide Linux ports.
I don't refer to the dx9->dx10 transition, but the recent dx10->dx10.1 transition which rendered first generation dx10 hardware incompatible. Those early birds who bought dx10 hardware will think twice next time.
Microsoft helps FOSS in many ways.
1. the forced pre-installed crap on all newly purchased PC angers people (it definitely angered me). Why couldn't i use my old install CD? Because I don't have it. It's like buying a new toothbrush every day.
2. the crappy DRM in Vista which prevents even rightful use of home-made content
3. Vista's craptastic performance itself
What M$ could do to help us even more:
1. Create and leak more Halloween style documents (if you don't know what i meant, google for halloween documents)
2. Stop supporting Windows XP
3. When the first DX10.1 games appear, switch to DX10.2
4. Crack down on people writing software (addons/improvements) for M$ stuff
5. Anger governments/standard experts worldwide with ballot stuffing on OOXML
Crash landing in the ocean is survivable for germs.
If an asteroid is large enough, its core won't burn up, i guess.
What if earth was a planet like Mars is now, with thin air and no water.
The incoming asteroids provided the necessary water and air.
This is one possible way.
The old days stuff was about equipment. Surely, neither the tube radio nor the ipod earbuds help the quality. MP3 degrades the quality much less (at least with a sufficiently high variable sample rate).
Heh, SUN paid for a bridge, Novell might even get that money as it is rightfully theirs.
They cannot take the money AND sue SUN.
If Novell doesn't let SUN to do what they want for that money, Novell must give back the money they didn't even take from the corpse of SCO.
Not entirely true. I saw GNU stuff on Solaris, and it was far better than the original stuff provided by Sun.
What is true, that Hurd is nowhere and wouldn't get anywhere as far as Linux has gone.
I think Linus found the right path between zealotry and pragmatism because his only goal was to create something working.
Yeah, especially if the penguin hides behind a big blue gorilla.
Oh well, and Novell.
Just lets see what Novell will do with its precious Unix copyrights...
It could very well hand them over to M$.
Really? I thought evolution is more intelligently designed!
Like: from tomorrow, each egg will hatch a chicken, not a lizard.
(eh, i agree with you, if that wasn't obvious)
Sometimes i just move that double for into a new function, and use return from the inner loop.
Yeah, it is cheating, but usually fools the suckers that review my code.
Hacker originally meant anyone who dabbles with ANY code.
Not necessarily bypassing security, and not necessarily on someone elses computer, and not necessarily without consent.
Women never had much ground in IT. At least in my country.
Not because they are dumb, or were handicapped by employers.
Women are simply disinterested in computers.
Yeah, there are exceptions, but exceptions make up a very small percentage.
Back in school, we had 1/3 girls of the class, some said they will show the boys how good are they in CS.
None of them remained in the field. Not all of the men either, but roughly half of us are still programmers.
95% of the women are simply bored with programming, if they ever do it, it is only to support something else.
Half of the times it would work.
That's much more than with current technology.

By the time this comes to life, real time 3d holo movie streams will be common.
So yeah, we'll need the speed.
Take out the error correction and you'll get an ultrfast Vista compatible computer.
Apparently the RIAA tried to cheat a poor man who couldn't even afford to hire a defense.
Why is this news?
Probably to warn other victims.
wanna watch scantily clothed Leila dance in the holo movie :)

Oh sure. Why don't you just say, people who KNOW Microsoft are terrorists.
Yeah, this move surely fractured the DX10 developer community.

Are you aware that some people push ID as a scientific theory? The very same people want to ban the theory of evolution from schools.
except that J&J stole that symbol for use as their own trademark?

It is very successful in hiding the good aspects. Tell me one.
Go play with Clippy then.
