If the developers of GTA3 had had to create all of the game's graphics on an assembly-based sprite coding level, as well as everything else, it would have taken much longer to make the game. They might also have rushed out a crappy product to meet launch dates. OO coding doesn't improve the gamer's experience at all, but it may produce higher-quality games that feature all sorts of nifty hidden stuff (like GTA3 did) because the developers had time to spare after the main engine was done.
As vitreolic as the parent's tone was, I would have to agree. This article really does sound like an advertisement. They tell you who is making it, what sort of awards it has won (which is why you should buy it), and what the game is about. Though this may be useful information, I can't see why this has any place on Slashdot. The "Games" section should contain information about new gaming technology, system upgrades, how to build a hot gaming rig, and so on - not "news flashes" about the latest game you should go buy.
Just FYI, the original Hebrew word for day - "yom" - means an EXACT 24-hour period. Not that I disagree with you; just wanted to correct a misconception:P
Why? There are people in my church who believe Jesus was just another guy, and that God's existence is irrelevant to their lives. Churches are, at their heart, just a place to get together with folks you like to do stuff that makes you feel better about yourself:P
As far as I'm concerned, the key to immortality is through memories. Einstein transcends time. As do the Wright brothers, etc etc...
This doesn't even approach immortality. Immortality is an eternal preservation of the entirety of a person's being, not just specific memories of things they did. If Einstein has been reduced to nothing more than pictures of a guy with a wild haircut and "E=mc^2", how can you possibly say he has achieved immortality? How many people can tell you off the top of their head what school he went to, who he loved, what he dreamed about, where his first job was, etc.? That sort of thing I find to be far more important in defining immortality than the memory of a few discrete accomplishments.
ELCA is considered far more "liberal" than just about any other Christian faith you may find in the US. We have no problems ordaining homosexuals for leadership positions in the church (given a vow of celibacy*), as well as women for the same.
My church (United Church of Christ, www.ucc.org) just hired a new pastor. Before him, though, we had a lesbian minister who was in a monogomous partnership.
Ha ha, I'm more liberal!;p It's good to hear about other churches who are willing to accept everyone. I've always said that Jesus would accept a homosexual as a friend without even blinking. It's also good to hear about other churches where the ability to think is a virtue!
Actually, Jesus Christ is mentioned by name in the writings of Pontius Pilate, which have been authenticated by numerous western and non-western scholars alike. I'd say that's pretty good proof.
Yes, I know threat is in quotes, but come on. These guys need to face facts. "Piracy" - a propaganda word in itself, meant to inspire fear - obviously wasn't a threat last year, when there was a 2.3% CD sales increase in the US. These companies should get off or our backs. After all, you cannot win in an industry by pissing off or suing your customer base!
Would someone mind explaining what a "phantom" web site is, as this term appears nowhere in TFA?
Also, why must people constantly refer to things as "plug-and-play" just because they work as soon as you run them? This is like calling a pair of eyeglasses plug-and-play because you don't need any special equipment to wear them...
Just FYI, my original user ID # was 652871. I used it when I was immature and have since dumped it so that my formerly "Terrible" karma doesn't keep my comments from being seen.
Why mod this insightful? There is nothing insightful about this. This is just as much of a troll as posting long stories about the GNAA taking over some company, or that horrific Old Ike story. All this guy did was copy & paste someone else's work for his own benefit. It's like going to a famous author's book premiere party, and trying to look good by reading the book out loud to anyone who'll listen.
In response to your complaints:
1) Tactile feeback nonexistent? Except that you can't scroll up and down with the scrollwheel pushed in.
2) I've never had a problem with a slow UI. Which firmware version did you have?
3) So? A USB-based charger is pretty much useless, since you can still plug in a power cord while connected to the PC. All it would do would be to lower the wire count.
4) Hold in the back button for one second. It switches between "Now Playing" and "Selected Music".
5) Umm... yes you can. Nomad Explorer, the software that comes STANDARD with the Nomad, lets you browse your files in a Windows-style hierarchy.
6) Did you have a USB 2.0 connection? With that, I can dump a full 40GB of music onto my Nomad in under an hour. That's pretty damn fast.
In response to your suggestions:
1) Why? What would be the point? Do you mean you want a wireless connection to speakers, or something? A wireless network connection would have no useful purpose for a music player. USB 2.0 is faster than 802.11g, and Bluetooth is pretty outdated at this point.
2) I agree, sort of. I think the FM Tuner should be separate simply because of the drain on battery power.
3) Again, what's the point? USB was designed for high-speed data transfer. USB-powered devices tend to have a small power usage footprint; charging a device via USB tends to be a lot slower than charging it via AC/DC.
4) WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT? The Nomad Zen Xtra HAS THIS. Almost every Nomad since the first one does, as well. You must not have installed the right software. If you don't like Nomad Explorer, look up NotMad Explorer. It even has its own communication drivers that speed up the data transfer.
Now that I've ranted like this, I should ask: were you actually talking about the Nomad Zen Xtra, or something else entirely?
Creative needs to take market share away from Apple. The iPod is a terrible product - bad battery life, few file formats supported, battery replacement costs $ridiculous, can't get music back from the iPod without hacked software... the list goes on.
Creative's Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra is simply awesome. I got one for Christmas a couple years back. 40GB storage capacity; 10 hour operating battery life; support for MP3, WMA, and Audible audio (in the latest firmware); cheap replacement parts; two-way data and music transfer...
Creative should be winning this competition solely on the basis that they can add support for new audio formats through a firmware upgrade. Apple, rather than released updated firmware, releases new versions of the iPod, thus totally pissing off anyone who had an older one, because they can't use the new functionality. See here for an example of the trouble this causes.
Creative acknowledges their customers. Apple snubs them.
Flamebait? Please. Mod parent up insightful! George Clooney should have stuck to the ER and left the spandex tights to someone who didn't need custom-molded fake muscles to look buff.

Guess it's not that GNU then, is it?
The title for the page showing Linus going into the dunk tank? "Linus gets wet".

Sorry, but I really have nothing useful to contribute. I'm too busy trying to get Gentoo to install on a virtual machine without getting Flagrant Errors.
True, but it did mention that he was capable of wiggling his fingers. Lack of feeling doesn't indicate lack of nerve connection. Nerves do a lot more than feel. They sense pain, trigger muscles, and help regulate our bodies.

Nobody knew the launch date? I was close. I said I'd heard that it was in March. Ahem.
I announced this on the 6th of this month and people accused me of lying... See?
Umm... dying for freedom does not equate to taking freedoms away. Your post makes almost no sense.

I believe that there are some firewalls that can block traffic to certain top-level domains; I can't think of any offhand, though.
Oh, Bill. You coy little he-devil. Program me into your arms.
