  1. Interception of Images directly from the Sattelite on Sneaky Satellite Photos Available Online · · Score: 1

Any HAMS out there know the frequencies of said birds like the IKONOS, and perhaps a protocol?

I think it'd be great to receive the data direct from the sattelite and decode it yourself - skip the fee, of course, you lose the ability to tell them what area to take a picture of, but it'd still be cool to collect the images to see what others are looking at....

Any links to such a scenario?

    Hams?

Last time I checked, Animals had a nice symbiotic relationship, we breath O2, and exhale CO2, Plants breath the CO2 and "exhale" O2...

Until we invented automobiles that burn hydrocarbons...

Our lovely vehicles spew out Carbon Monoxide(CO). Thisis both deadly to plants and animals.

Yeah, this article is nice, but it's not the levels of CO2 that we should be trying to reduce from our cars, it's the levels of CO. (Of course, reducing CO2 would help reduce the greenhouse effect, but that's a different story..)

Roddenbary, alone - had insightful ideas. I cherished someo fhte ideas he brougth to the screen(s). Berman, on the other hand does has that plastic styrene feel about him, kind of cheesy glamour and cheap glitz time feel - very shalow.

The two of them together in equal balance brought about some excellent work - Gene - with the intellectualstimulation and story line, and Rick, with the push and drive to satisfy the paramount folk to actually get some of Gene's stuff onto the screen.

When Gene passed away, that tension between them that created such gems died with him. Berman has complete control and has jeapordized the future of Star Trek with Series like Voyager, and DS9. They are too plasticy, and targeted at 9 year old boys. There's very little thought required to view one of these shows - which is what Paramount wants, which is what Berman delivers - and gets paid handomley to do so.

As someone else here on slashdot stated, some of the TNG episodes were timeless and thought provoking ("All good things" comes to mind). They let you really get a feel for the characters struggles.

Well' that's enoguh Rambling. I agree with the poster - Berman is a problem - he might think he's got his heart in the right place, but he's going about it all the wrong way.

  7. Re:Forget the sails... let's talk about the tether on New Space Propulsion System Uses Sun's Magnetic Field · · Score: 1

It's undoable. The teather would have to be immense - think about the forces at work on that teather:

There's the linearly increasing weight of the teather(say 1 foot = 100lbs). You'd never find a material that could support it's own weight.

Then there's the payload, or orbiting sattelite attached to the teather - At some point on the teatherm the forces of gravity dissipate, and the mass at the end of the teather starts to pull the teather in the opposite direction - causing a huge stress point on the teather.

Then there's Anchoring the damn'd thing... And forget about it if that sucker ever snapped at some point BELOW the gravity threashhold - can you say jack and the beanstalk?

Nice concept though - but therare other ways...

Ok, it's a silly question, but if there is no mechanism for finding out, then why should I feel safe? How do I know that my privacy is NOT being interrupted by a warrant that I don't even know about?
I mean, yeah, it would be counterintuitive to post a list of all the people who have a warrant against them enableing the use of wiretaps, but on the other hand, doesent it seem like that is required to protect our freedom?

Now you get a knock at your door and are asked to pack for a very long stay by two enforcment agency people - and all things being confidential and such- you won't even know which bad habit of your fits their profile....

Does that shed some light as to how dangerous this data can be if colelcted on EVERY individual?

Forget about the implications of political powers use of this data......
