I've always wondered why Nintendo didn't just make a faster NES with better graphics and sound. That way, the devs knew the architecture, but now had better visuals and sound.
I don't know about you, but the Cable in my old apartments in Georgia were set up so different providers could theoretically provide to the same quad unit. There was the line, the main splitter, and the the splitters for the indiviual rooms in each unit.
Did this by any chance happen to be an ISA (and specifically, Creative) souncard? I had a bizzare problem with one on a PIII 1GHz machine with 98. Using the wavetable MIDI would lock up the system, and took a long time to boot. I had thought maybe it was a BUS timing issue, but usually that only fucks with the FM synth for programs that directly talk to it, like Adlib Track II, or the old game Populous. It was an AMI BIOS based board.
Well, if you live in America, and don't work for the Department of Defense, then yes, those degrees are useless, seeing as how we don't innmovote, invent, or do R&D anymore.

Possibly, the fact that that and older card with perfectly optinmised drivers might actually perform better than a newer one with badly written drivers. Seems to me that S3 and XGI learned this the hard way.
I wonder if this has more to do with trying to get mind and market share over intel than them really beleiving Open Source is the future of the market. maybe it's both.
