using doc viewer all you have to do is select the "hidden" boxes and you can read the text. I guess you need ctrl+c ctrl+v if you would like to print the hidden message, but otherwise a simple select all will do it!

  4. what do you want to do? on For CS Majors, How Important Is the "Where?" · · Score: 1

You can usually go to a liberal arts undergrad college and then attend a more technical graduate school. One thing to really consider is a cost difference if they are both good schools. If they cost the same then don't worry about it. But if one is going to cost 100k and the other 50k, choose the 50k school. 100k is a hell of a lot to pay off with a CS degree and you will thank me for this advice in 4 years.

A road sign clearly indicated that this was a private road. Maybe Google's road crew didn't understand English, took a wrong turning, or their maps were out of date. Since they took photographs every 10 metres or so, having a photograph of their property is not going to affect its value by any significant amount. are you being facetious?

right on. I'm nearly completely MS free. I run linux on my desktop and OS X on my laptop. The only MS software I have is Office 2004 for Mac. I keep it because my thesis was written using it. I plan on a switch to LaTeX and OO.org after this thesis is done. I should be MS free by 2010.

I, like many on slashdot, use *nix systems which are already modular. I don't pay for each upgrade/bundle/change. Maybe more people will jump off the Microsoft ship when they have to pay monthly just to use their computers the way they see fit.

I was told I could do anything and get paid over the market price for my degree and that the degree did give me experience (I was required to co-op). When I graduated I learned the hard way that that just isn't true. You have to start at the bottom. I was told I didn't have to. I realized after I graduated that I had made a mistake and gone into the wrong field. I did it for security and money and realized that those were not going to be easily obtained after graduation. Oh well... back to school for me. Time to do something I really want to do.

  10. I use both on Ubuntu Gutsy Gibbon vs. Mac OS X Leopard · · Score: 1

I run Gutsy on my desktop and Leopard on my PowerBook G4. I like both of them for different reasons. Both of them look good, function properly and "just work". I like using some windows only software under wine in Gutsy. I've got a PPC so i can't use windows software easily on my mac. OpenOffice.org is nice on either system, although I have to do some professional work that doesn't work correctly with OpenOffice.org and I have to use MS office on the mac with some extra plugins. I like having both around, I basically have the option to run most any software I want without having to run windows. The bottom line is I would not recommend Ubuntu to people who don't know how to use computers well, or to people who have fear of the Terminal. If you can run every piece of software you want on Ubuntu and never use the terminal I commend you. You just have to use it (or at least I do). I would, on the other hand, recommend Mac to people who suck at computers. First off I can trouble shoot them easily (call 1-800-APLCARE). Secondly they are stupid easy to use and work with just about anything.

I don't understand what you are talking about. I am peeved about the incorrect use of the word brick. You seem to have misinterpreted my comment and think that I think bricking is a yes-yes. It is not. It is definitely a no-no. But if you want to describe an object as a brick then the object should have lost its original function to the point that no one can fix it and it is only good to be used as a brick or paperweight or any other basically inert object.

  12. Re:How is this possible? on EVE-Online Patch Makes XP Unbootable · · Score: 1

I hate the word "bricking" or "brick" or "bricked." I especially hate how so many self proclaimed geeks use it incorrectly. It's like a geek saying "I downloaded Microsoft Office from my CD-ROM drive onto my CPU" and thinking that sentence is correct. If you want to use the word "brick" make sure that the devise works for nothing except building houses or holding papers down on a desk. Otherwise the devise isn't bricked, it's just broken and can be fixed.
