But I'd take JumpMan over Quake in a heartbeat. And I'd take Hacker (you know, the old 64 game, not the movie) over anything else I've ever played, except (maybe) Starcraft.
Okay, maybe it's just my slant on things, but this is how I see things at Microsoft.
Gates stepped down as CEO because he was getting bored with CEO type duties and responsibilities. He's still calling all the shots, but he's not handling the day-to-day stuff that Ballmer is now. Never mind the fact that if/when the $(1* hits the fan, Ballmer is now set up as the fall guy, and Gates will remain unscathed.
Don't fool yourself - Microsoft is still very much Bill's baby.
In response to your question, I'd much prefer wearing a band on my arm then a headset, especally if just tooling around town. Besides, I would think secret service agents have the "hand at ear" move down pat (at least the actors who play secret service agents do).
Penguins in general might mean that, but this is TUX! He's fat, he's lazy, he does nothing but sit there with a stupid grin on his face. It's everything every aspiring UNIX admin should be, and more!
Generally, if replying to a post, and the community at large won't benefit from the reply, or you're just cracking a stupid joke, post at 1.
If you think you're furthering a useful discussion, or ranting, and generally want the community at large to read what you have to say, post at 2.
The +1 bonus is there because Slashcode thinks you have something valuable to say most of the time. It's not a right oy passage. So don't abuse it already.
NOTE: And yes, I do have the +1 bonus, and decided not to use it.
Oh. Yeah. You Americans have Thanksgiving really late, when us Canadians are already knee deep in snow, building up our igloos, hunkering down with our really good beer to watch Hockey Night in Canada.
I'm having Turkey - what are *you* doing this weekend?:)
I am constantly putting Linux onto old hardware. Need a quick, dirty, and cheap NAT box? Throw Linux on a DX2/66.
MP3 file server for the geeks in IT? Throw in a big drive, but a 486 will do.
Hell, my company's web server is running on a low end PII, and I think it's a horrendous waste! It could be doing *so* much more.
Linux is a UNIX for cheap Intel hardware first. That's where its roots are, and I don't see why it should sacrifice its roots for big iron that can quite happily run a UNIX designed for big iron.
Yeah. I haven't been coming here that long (maybe since Jan '99), but I remember/. having more stuff along these lines, and it was a much nicer place to be.
I can sort of get that kind of feeling by ignoring Your Rights Online, but not quite. We need Quickies *every day* dammit!
Teach me for checking about half a time every six months.:)
Never minding that every time I go and install Linux, I end up losing everything on my hard drive within a month - usually in the middle of a Windows reinstall.
I think the idea (and I haven't read any of the replies to your post, so sorry if I'm just repeating what they say) is that the user can replace Konqueror with Mozilla if he chooses to.
That is a very good thing. If I use KDE 2 (which I plan to as soon as KOffice hits public beta), and hate Konqueror, or just feel like doing something neat on a rainy Tuesday, switching the internal browser on KDE should be fairly trivial.
And for the record, because you can change the rendering engine if you so desire, integrating the browser with the everything is not nearly as insidious as MSHTML.
As for porting Mozilla to QT, standard widgets are good, and Corel likes KDE. And it sounds like they are stripping down Mozilla for KDE - note that they only took Gecko, not the rest of it.
I thought he pitted the MX vs the 450 because of similar features and price points. He was also doing it because there were few/no good "which card is better for Linux" reviews out there.
Go again this morning, fool. We're not talking about the G450 article from last week, we're talking about the G450 vs. GeForce 2 MX article from this morning.
Oy vey...
The CBC has gone downhill though
on
IT Olympics
·
· Score: 1
There was a time when we could see all the lesser known sports on the CBC. Now, we just see the mainstream ones. I don't know about anybody else, but it peeves me off that I can only see fencing in the commercials.
IIRC, no equestrian events are being shown in prime time either.
I remember being able to see speed skiing in the winter Olympics in France in '92.
Still, it's far better to be able to watch coverage that is (mostly) non-partisan - there are updates on Canadians, but they're not the only athleates competing.:)
It seems similar to the Japanizing of cartoons and music.
If only that were true. JPop is still way better than wussy American Pop or boring American dance (eight notes, over and over, and no electric guitar - *yawn*).
Oh, since people like talking to moderators, I will too: I have a +1 bonus, and I didn't use it. Consider this post already modded down. Please and thank you.
I was watching the news yesterday when I found this out. Instead of filling out the ticket, they just swipe the card and print the thing off now. Just like Police Quest III.:)
Incidentally, it's great for doubling those numbers they show off during "safety blitzes" (read quota filling periods).
But since I use Opera, whenever IE wants to access the internet (usually, strangely enough, when I start it by mistake) I usually go NONONONONONONONONONONONONONO, and then press the No button.
I am, however, worried as hell when my connection lights are flashing like the dickens and the ZoneAlrm graph stands still. I complained to my ISP, and they say it's RIP (!). Good thing I'm not actually paying for service...
Not exactly what I meant - more along the lines of previous rulings and how they would affect cases in other states.
Ah.
In this case, if Texas won't allow a lawsuit, then Texas still won't.
However, in a state that will, then should the case win in Cailfornia, it will definitely be used as evidence of precedent (I would sure as hell use it). Then, six people (the jury - again, this is Ontario, other jurisdictions may differ) will decide how much weight that precedent truly deserves in that jurisdiction.
In the case of Ontario, I imagine it would not hold a heck of a lot of weight - we all know the wacky decisions that come out of California.:)
California allows you to sue for a lot of things other places won't let you sue for.
They also have different burden of proofs then other states and provinces.
Also, the laws regarding lawsuits won't magically change in Texas becausee somebody in California won a frivolous suit that would not be allowed in Texas.
Having studied civil law in Ontario (in high school no less, ph33r my l33t l4w sk1llZ!), I don't think we could pull off the same sort of lawsuit here.
Most of the time, I'd make a comment about Ontario being sane about frivolous civil suits, but having paid for at least two copies of Windows I never wanted, I'm going to keep my opinion in reserve this time.
I'll take Quake over Pac-Man any day.

To each his own, I guess.

You like Burger King more? Get out!
Everything else was forgivable, but that is sacriledge! Out with you! Shoo!

Comedy in general is cynical and bitter. A good beer is just bitter.
Coincidence?!?!?
(As for HHGttG, that's just British humour for you. Lighten up, and revel in the misery of others).

"The password to the Air Shield is 1 2 3 4 5 sir."
"Brilliant! That's the same password I have on my luggage."

Neither does Linus, apparently.

Easy.
We can't mod down stories here like on some other sites I know *cough*kuro5hin*cough*.

It is important to note, however, that caving to the demands of Mr. King sets a dangerous president.
:)
Better get that email back before you find out that people at Columbia support George W. Bush.
Funny or Flamebait? Moderators, you decide!

Oh, IANAL, and IHCL (I Hate Civil Law).
I don't like that at all! I don't want to have to wonder why, even though we created Rambus, it keeps trying to save us.
"Maybe there's a little bit of Rambus in all of us."
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(Sorry, saw Godzilla 2000 recently, couldn't help it)
