  1. Re:Doesn't matter on iDownload Tries to Silence Spyware Critics · · Score: 1

Ya that clears a lot of it up. I can actually see the side of this company because it damages their reputation beyond repair if they are linked to spyware. The thing that puts it up in the air is if one of those products is spyware then its no longer false and its the TRUTH and therefore they lose all legal backing. This is what I'm getting from it. My guess is that it probably is spyware if a bunch of security websites are claiming it is. It will make for interesting battles and it would seem this company is in self denial (at least with what they display publically).

I'm confused. So does this mean that anyone who insults another company's product is liable to be sued? Can Microsoft sue people because they call Windows bloated or insecure and Microsoft doesn't think thats the case? I'm failing to see the difference here or the argument that iDownload is trying to make. Even if their product is legitimate what kind of laws are these websties breaking? Enlighten me someone if you know more about this sort of thing.

This is a general sense so don't take offesnse :-)

My guess is that a lot of them are people who got into PHP because they ran a simple static site so they went to PHP to make it dynamic and they don't know what programming is. Thats my take but I wouldn't expect the php community (at least not the development part of it) to know what true programming is like. Well at least not a majority of it for sure.

  5. Re:Bad writing on Zend Taking PHP In the Wrong Direction? · · Score: 3, Insightful

Exactly. For a good example, take spreadfirefox.com for instance. Currently there is an article about cnet's take on IE 7 and Firefox and Asa asks people to state their opinions for the media or others who might be reading this to get an idea about what the Mozilla Community is like. Well I was reading most the comments and every single one had a HUGE grammatical mistake. Now in most situations I don't proof read my comments such as a case like this but when someone tells me my comments will be read by a great number of people and influence the way Firefox looks to others then I would be a little bit more serious.

Neways ya PHP is nothing like Java. I've been using it for 7 years and if they mean by OOP that its more like java then they aren't too clever because PHP isn't making OOP the required way of programming or anything. They are simply providing people with more options to program and they still allow people to choose what they want. People still find OOP scary it would seem and although there are arguments for an against it, I think its up to the individual if they want to use it and that seems to be the way the PHP development is taking it.

Thats exactly what I was thinking. Some would respond to this with a claim that its then easier to manipulate the car to spit out lower mileage but then my reply would be simply that you can cheat on a test quite easily but there is still a risk to getting caught. It doesn't mean the solution should be for schools to install cameras watching you at all times... So to me it seems the GPS is a hidden package for monitoring. There is no valid reason that GPS is needed so why are they considering that with this new law? The law might work if it wasn't for privacy being shot to crap in this one regard.

Even if they did put this copy protection on all the DVDs they sold it wouldn't work. The MPAA has no idea how there movies get on the internet it would seem. Its not as if some tech geek rents a DVD and rips it onto his computer then distributing it by himself to a P2P network. Maybe they think that but that isn't he way it works. In reality movies are stolen from reels or from a computer by employees of the industry. They copy it to hidden servers outside of the US which then silently distribute it to a huge underground that the MPAA can't touch. They are starting to figure this out but in reality who the hell cares about copy protection on DVDs? Most people who download illegal movies aren't even getting it from them. I think this translates to do better intial research before spending more money on research that will essentially be deemed useless.
