What happens to the Universities and other schools that helped to create the internet as a great way of knowledge sharing?
IPv6 has been around for since the late 90's. IPv6 allows for all sorts of big brother controls on the stream. Anyone else get to work on the IPv6 network? The sucker is blazing fast! (Probably because no one is using it.) Anyhow--right now IPv6 is a great place to get just about anything being complained about in IPv4. All the music, movies, and porn are there if you know where to look.
So while IPv6 does have the ability to control the datastream--I've not seen implemented. If the big telco's did try to force IPv6 with all its controls on the market place they would be shooting themselves in the foot. The door would be open for startups to offer the reliable IPv4 network all over again. Can you imagine going back to dialup!?
Didn't Mebtal/Haw River Communicatons already try to block VOIP from their network and get sued for doing it? I believe the matter went to the courts and the ruling was in favor of the consumer. From the Mebtel Form 10-K filed with the SEC:
[quote]
he emerging technology known as VOIP can be used to carry user-to-user voice communications over broadband
or dial-up service. The FCC has ruled that some VOIP arrangements are not regulated as telecommunications services,
but that a conventional telephone service that uses Internet protocol in its backbone is a telecommunications service.
The FCC has initiated a proceeding to review the regulatory status of VOIP services and the possible application of
various regulatory requirements to VOIP providers, including the payment of access charges.
On March 3, 2005, our subsidiary, Madison River Communications, LLC, entered into a consent decree with the
FCC on behalf of itself, Madison River Telephone and the affiliated companies under the common control and
ownership of Madison River Telephone. The purpose of the consent decree was to resolve an investigation by the
Enforcement Bureau of the FCC into allegations that the subject companies were blocking ports used for VOIP
applications, thereby affecting customers' ability to use VOIP through one or more VOIP service providers. Under the
terms of the consent decree, we agreed to pay $15,000.00 and that we shall not block ports used for VOIP applications
or otherwise prevent customers from using VOIP applications. Expanded use of VOIP technology instead of
traditional wireline communications could reduce the access revenues received by local exchange carriers like us.

No mention of the coming update to World War 2 Online? http://www.wwiionline.com/
WW2Online is one of the best military simulations out there. The only place for large scale, combined-arms warfare with realistic vehicles. The realism requires more of a thinking gamer then a twitchy button masher.
The Screen Savers used to be great. Tried to watch the G4TV version but in the end I saved myself $350 buck a year and canceled the digital tier of cable. TechTV was the only thing worthwhile and G4 ruined it. Watching G4TV made me feel like an idiot for being a gamer.
Who is the idiot now? Me for reading/posting under a G4TV thread or the/. editor that decided this story was worth the front page.
Who cares about G4TV? And who cares about HL2 hype? I lived through too many years of HL2 hype--I'm cool with waiting for the product to hit the shelves and learning about the new stuff then...
Remember the Forbes/Forture article from last week talking about the smell of rot coming from Microsoft? How much longer do you think folks will be using Windows and Intel based platforms? Does anyone think the OS or chip will still be prevelant in the consumer market in five years? How about 10 years?
The only way for Microsoft to stay in the game is to innovate. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that Microsoft wins the console war. Kind of scary to see the tech edge slipping away from the USA and moving to the contries along the Pacfic Rim.
How could Sony mess up SWG as badly as they did? Out of the gate SWG was supposed to be the most successful MMOG ever. To bad the designers forgot to make the game fun! The only thing SWG has going for it is the Star Wars license. SOE has always ignored their player community when it mattered. At least now SOE doesn't have to the throngs of players screaming SWG isn't fun--they have all moved to World of Warcraft.

All the hoobyists I know are more interested in removing DRM. Who wants to make their media less useful?
