The more fancy features on a keyboard are useally not installed anymore after a re-install of windows, so if you ask me, you can leave them away completely
About 6 weeks on a logitech set, with rechargeble betteries it is about 3 weeks. A fast charger we have standing by, recharges the batteries in 1 hour, so with on extra set, everybody can always work.
Err: You were lying in the sun?
The mouse was lying in the sun (with cord)
The wireless mouse was lying in the sun?
Or the batteries were lying in the sun?
Do not place on your pc, place in plain sight, do not block , and at 5 meter distance (couch to PC) it barely works. It almost is like wifi.
Why is it so difficult to make a good wireless set with less useage requirements. The amount of data which need to be send is minimal, so instead of all nice new techniques, would a nice simple radio connection not work, limit the power output and it should work better then the blue tooth?
Or when it has to be in sight anyway: The remote from my TV even does it better (on new batteries, you can aim it in a random direction, and it will switch channels). Can somebody invite sony to make a wireless keyboard set?
Well, anyway it is interesting that Microsoft has running linux machines standing around at places this close to public, makes me wonder how high the linuxcounter project goes within Microsoft.
A. When I provide this data, do I get a complimentary gun with each purchase, I provided enough data.
B. People leave their fingerprints all over the DVD's I rent, rendering them pretty unusable until you clean them, so they do not have problems with leaving their prints I would say.
C. Does this player also play my old DVD's or do I have to buy the DVD's I already have again just to be able to play them (paying double, or since I live in the Neterlands: Triple, they also charge me an amount on empty datacarriers just in case I might copy something, hum, does that not make it legal to copy, I already paid for it anyway.)
Maybe that is why DeBeers is fighting this kind of efforts, especially since these artificially produced ones are of better quality than the real ones.
Diamonds are not beautifull when you find them. It is a like a little rock, rough surface, irregular shape, until the cutting and polishing takes place. These artificially made diamonds (it is a diamond, DeBeers does it not want to have that name), are having the basic shapes and most likely will need less cutting.
When there are enough diamonds available, I guess that we will find new applications for it, more usefull applications than a show off how rich we are.
Taking texts out of context is your hobby I guess, anyway a reply:
If you get enough trash back because of users, the nicest way is to let the mailserver handle it. A CPU can do the dumping a lot faster than a person can lookup an account, and take the person of the mailinglist
The spamassassin side of the story: We do not like to send out a plain text message, but nice HTML formatted messages. We take care that this requested e-mail is not mistaken for spam by already routing it through a filter to prevent our users who request this mail do not accidentily put us in a spambox. Since we send it from the same address all the time, they can or go to our side and login with their own account and disable, or use a filterrule to dump it in the thrash anyway.
3th point: We send everybody a welcome message with a login. So they need to be active to get started. There is however an very high rate of AOL/Hotmail addresses which do not live very long, resulting in a lot of trouble.
And no, sending a normal mailinglist with limitted resources is not like being a spammer, it is more like being spammed because you have to get rid of all the trash expiring e-mail accounts cause.
We do a mailing once to twice a week and there are hundreds of wrong/fake mailaddresses on it. We do not filter this, the mailserver dumps the returns. However now we are already marked sometimes as spam, while we craft the messages in such a way that at least spamassassin does not mark it as spam. It is a user subscription list, certainly not spam. This kind of solution will make this situation worse.
People love the ipod not just of it looks, but also because of its userinterface. A mobile phone is already more complex, and I see people with blackberrys and stuff like that switch back to normal phones just because it is easier to use, and has less bloat. Devices like ipod will stay, just like that people like to buy appliances. Windows will go way out because of its everyway possible use, to big interfaces and tough to find programs.
Disclaimer:
Yes, I use an ipod, the interface could even be easier.
Yes, I use windows, linux (kde) and OS X: They are all bloated. OS X certainly is not the easiest of the three when you want to find a program.
The information was already freely available only the print was done by Elsevier ea which charge for the distribution cost (like GPL: Information is free, but someone is allowed to charge you for the distribution cost).
The real bad part about the magazine prints is that the distribution cost is very high, the selection of articles is done by a editor who has to keep a certain format, resulting in a medium interesting magazine which is mainly sold to companies and schools.
The real advantage of a system like darenet (at moment when it is not being/.ed) is the ability to find all the articles which did not make it into the magazines, and it is better seachrable. The last point is way interesting for everybody in the scientific world who had to go through magazine indices to find the information relevant to his or her project. It will hopefully prevent more double work and give more scientific progress.
I think that the Dutch initiative is nice, but the real gain for people who want to learn is I thnik in systems like the opencourseware system from MIT.
On windows people need to start this program too, but overwrite the calculator and at a certain moment they will start this.
File execution rights on linux tend to stay too when the file already exists. Overwrite bash (user is logged in as root (happens enough)) and you can create havoc.
I think that there are 2 categories:
1. unaware users (like about all my neighbours and friends)
2. Users who do not want to patch their system into a less controlable state (hence SP2 trouble).
I think better filters at mailservers could help:
The content of the mail may be unknown (different headers all the time), but the attachment is known. A simple filter should be able to get rid of it, no need for very expensive antivirus software.
10 years ago on much more expensize hardware (IBM mainframe, diskset of 50GB for $ 25000) we stopped optimizing for performance and space since making optimized software was too expensive compared to the hardware.
So this was even with using more resources than initialy available. On our own machines right now, serving website traffic in a hosting firm, the hardware is used by badly written php scripts. Totally not optimized in any way. Still machines stay below 10% usage
Most boxes are bought based on performance because the geek likes the performance. In reality most boxes are used to a full 10% of their performance.
In short: Geeks love performance

The digital signature really speeds up the possiblity to post comments, do not have to wait for 2 minutes anywmore. I love it!

This asks for a new moderation category:

flock together, now their systems do that too.

But it works against users who do not update, so I will call it succesfull
lets clear one thing up:
I meant that the first group is ignorant and does not run updates.

since this is a BSD issue, I shall call it worse: Linux.
Simple: You have random users which make backups to your machine but don't want anybody else to be able to read these backups.
It now looks like a toaster.
