i'm under the assumption that politicians do not know anything, and they just hear the 'experts' opinions; 'experts' with vested interest.
lobbying itself is not really the problem. it's just an inherent side effect of an imperfect system. in a feudalist state, the local barons will 'help' the kingdom handling the smaller issues, while bribing and paying tribute to the power holder; the king/queen, so they'll get the favour. and you can replace 'feudalism' with 'democracy', 'local barons' with 'corporations', and 'king/queen/prince' with 'senators'.
I see the point you are trying to make, but Christians don't have the power to damn someone to Hell. Usually it is said that God will damn you, or something like that.
speaking from my own experience, i've never seen any 'god' going around and damning people. i saw a lot of people did though. either i haven't seen the world that much, or the paradigm has a seriously faulty.
i've been asking the same thing in the past few years. and from the various responses on the forums, i can safely conclude the reasons:
- apparently, for some people in a specific country, reading is a major chore.
- the same people in the same specific country refuses to listen to anything that is non-native to their ears. (saw quite a number of complaints of DQ VIII which dubs into english with british/european accents for not using their accent).
i'm not sure about the age-rating for this game. if they are seriously concerned about the game promoting "violence", surely they could just check the id card of the customers? just to make sure that the buyer is far older than average schoolers. of course, this won't stop the kids from asking someone older to buy the game for them, or downloading it.
alternatively, if you are really that bad with agility/dexterity games, you can switch your game with something you're better at, eg, computer games. but then, they (the wussy ones) will start complaining about obesity and stuff. i got a hunch that they had a boring, lifeless childhood, and want to impose their monotonous life to their (and others') children.
imho, dice man is the real world rpg. with board games and computer-aided simulations, player plays a role by immersing him/herself into the virtual world, whereas the diceman plays a role by living it. what can be more real than that?
My sister's kids will be playing with the same bricks I had 30 years previously.
if your sister's kids are playing with your bricks, then, what are you going to play with? it is true that lego makes a durable toys, but human population grows. more human = more demands = more potential customers. you can lend/donate your old stuffs, because you don't need them anymore, but a good toy? do you want to give away something that you still need?
maybe they are just feeling insecure, as the old-school games/toys have to compete with the new computer games with bolder advertisments, etc. or maybe they are amassing more cash to prepare for their exit from the industry. i wouldn't know.
I could understand your view regarding the shortened words in SMS. However, an SMS has only 160 characters in it. One more character in the message, and you'll have to pay for two SMSes.
Of course, it's only a cost of one SMS, but if you're in the business that requires you to use the service regularly, it could save your money considerably. Not many people will need that many letters/characters in one short message, but that doesn't mean that such people doesn't exist.
What your cat did today is not news for the entire world to hear. What we do want to hear about are thoughts on current issues,... information from hot areas (e.g. Iraqi bloggers)...
And what about the death of an Iraqi cat? Will it matter more to you than the death of a cat in, say, Timbuktu? Blogs are there to provide information, be it useful to you or not.
Why do you guys keep electing the people that pass this stuff?
Because the other candidate is offering a much worse alternative? When you have to choose between a one-day old pizza and a two-day old pizza, it doesn't really matter what you choose; you'll get pretty much the same stuff.
Ermm... not necessarily. When the optimum route is no longer the optimum, the system might update the recent development, and advise the new/late users an alternative to it. I think there's a branch in Artificial Intelligence called Swarm Intelligence [wikipedia.org] that deals with it.
If you're a game developer, just involve some controversial issues in your game, and it'd be getting a lot of media's attention. Of course, it'd be banned or censored or altered in some regions, but, free advertising!
(X) Totalitarian government

Well, what's wrong with those type of governments? It's their country, therefore their right to choose what kind of governement suitable for them, like it or not.
(X) Possesses Weapons of Mass Destruction
As if the Americans don't have them

Please check google for the treatment of prisoners of war in Camp X-Ray in Cuba
(X) Unstable, Irresponsible leadership
Just like the current USoA president?
If these are the valid reasons, America could wage war against America. now, we don't want to see another civil war on North America continent again, do we? My point is, these are never the justification to wage war. These are pretenses/excuses made by a particular group to boost their (arms) industry.
FTA: seven areas turned into 'planetary parks', regulated just like national parks here on Earth.
it's not national park, it's just something like national park. that said, the article failed to mention the which regulating body would be given the right to govern the parks (or the planet.
perhaps he/she can do better if he/she tries to explain voyeurism instead of sexual relationships.
i'm colour blind!
if they do copy the songs on your ipods or harddisk, would they be committing piracy (or some sort of unauthorised reproduction of copyrighted works)?

simply offer them two blue pills. they don't have much choice now, do they?

well, neal stephenson predicted this. but, instead of world managers, he predicted pizza deliverators.

I don't see the point of bemoaning how far behind we are, when no one actually competes with us anymore
remember the race between the hare and the turtle? the slow turtle won the race because the hare couldn't be bothered to move forward.
Russians simply don't have the cash anymore
and with deficit of trilions of dollars, americans will too.
