We're not talking about VB, we're talking about VB.net. The difference is almost incomprehensibly huge. VB.net doesn't cause brain damage or anything. It's essentially C# with a different facade.
About it being very difficult to repair the brain of a coder exposed to any form of BASIC, do you have any actual evidence or studies on that? Because I really don't believe it's true.
I am a student in a public high school, and NO computer science or programming classes are offered. NONE. With all the "child development" and assorted BS classes, couldn't they fit CS in somewhere?
What is going to make a lot of students want to study CS further at a higher-education level if they haven't been exposed to it earlier?
That's true. The only problem with source-based package management is (take it from a former long-time Gentoo user) the fact that it takes so long to compile any non-trivial applications. Also, obviously not every package follows the standard./configure;make;make install installation method. Ebuilds need to be written, just like RPMs need to be made. Or, if the user is going to install it him or herself, it would be even more of a nightmare. He or she would have to wade through countless pages of documentation (trust me, I've compiled Firefox) just to get his or her favorite apps working. And it would be an absolute nightmare for package management, such as when you wanted to uninstall something.
All in all, no matter whether you consider standard "make" installation or a system like Portage, it just doesn't measure up to binary.
And although I type *much* better on Dvorak, I can type fine on QWERTY too. I used to type better on QWERTY before I learned Dvorak. Then I went through a period of being completely unable to do QWERTY. Following that, I learned to switch between them at ease. You just have to be natural with both, it'll come with practice. Switch to Dvorak.
These same scientists have retracted their earlier statements in record time. They are currently developing various theories to explain how they could have possibly thought Holand Piquepaille was becoming an altruist.
One scientist blames Bob Matthews, the lead scientist, and was recorded saying, "I have no idea what the fuck my colleage Bob was thinking. I mean, Holand Piquepaille, an altruist? There's no way." This seems to be a common sentiment. This school of thought points to massive quantites of acid, crack, pot, and plain ol' alcohol in Matthews' bloodstream.
A completely different faction thinks that, as speculated in my previous post, Holand simply grasped a similar post. "It could have been anything," the faction leader said, "But the highest likelihood is something along the lines of either 'The size of my penis' or 'number of people who don't hate me'."

I fail to see how someone could think that they don't deserve to see simulated sex after downloading the GTA:SA sex patch...
Who wants to study CS when their jobs are being outsourced to India anyway?

Are you the same Chris Bennett who is essentially the god of LD in the state of Arizona?
If you have no idea what I'm talking about, the answer is no.
You are giving us high schoolers a bad name
It's not immensely popular among high schoolers. It's immensely popular among idiotic high schoolers.
Hopefully someone will convince people how stupid Fox is, and get people to stop using MySpace. Oh, can you imagine it? A world without MySpace?
sets you up the bomb
Heh, good point.

The dude in the article is not a "mom and pop". He's a PhD of computer science.
his field is computer science.
Isn't it completely possible that this study is bogus?
obey the power of time cube
There's 3 types of Linux
1) Desktop distros
2) Server distros
3) BS distros that don't work
Gentoo falls firmly into category 3.
This is probably the stupidist RMS troll BS I've ever read. Even stupider than his "essay" itself.
IIRC there is a .mozconfig option that fixes this. Did you compile it yourself, or are you using an official build?
Why wouldn't closed-source developers want to do the same thing?
WTF does the openness of the code have to do with when patches are released?
/me throws a copy of 1984 at the AC

Oh, and "watch out my grammer[sic]"?
I'm not korean. The way I got the name is a long story that I don't feel like telling.
