    ... so some stupid "protected garden" offered by MSN. The Salon article says:

    "Customers will be able to download the latest information on local arts and entertainment and shop online"

    Is that all they can do? What about ssh to your home Linux box and recompile the kernel.

    The article also says: "The service will be provided over MobileStar Network Corp.'s wireless broadband network and connect people using Microsoft's MSN services."

    ... so what does MSN do here? Just provide a connection from MobileStar to a backbone so something more (ie less).

    How annoying.
    So the guy has a few extra pounds/kilos.

    Small step for IBM; giant leap for Linux at ZDNet says:
    But sources close to the deal said Red Hat Linux will be the Linux distribution that will be pre-loaded on Lawson's servers.
    While its terrific that there's going to be such a big Linux installation lets realize that since Windows is going to be the client there will probably be more Windows boxes in this setup L-(

    It works OK in their Internet Explorer but the problem shows in Netscape - and probably other browsers.

    Conspiracy? Have they doctored IE so it tolerates certian bad HTML (like missing ) that Netscape can't handle. Then they use this bad HTML on their site. Probably not, who would be that evil?

    BTW, if you view the page in Netscape and IE side by side there are many differences - even a different graphic on the top/left.

    The Globe and Mail ("Canada's Nation Newspaper") covers the Olympics here: http://www.globeandmail.com/thegames/. Notice no use of the O-word in the URL and not a single mention on the site either. I think they are afraid to use it - or maybe refuse to pay a licensed fee?

    This doesn't work because doesn't count all
    links equally. It rates "good" links higher.
    So a bunch of interlinked junk pages that
    nobody else links to doesn't rate too highly.

    You can generate the GUIDs (global ids) on a different machine then use them on your machine. Does somebody (eg EFF) want to set up CGI internet to GUIDGEN.EXE - the program which makes the GUIDs?
