Say you are the senior guy, an expert at perl, sql and java or something. You take a weekend to learn... and a few hours at work to install the environment. But your title still is 1990s tech guy. And they still hire somebody who is supposed to be an expert in . But he actually hardly knows it any better than you since its so new.
No kidding. PV panels on your roof seem WAY more sensible. You don't have to pay some utility. Sure the sun isn't constant in, say, Germany like the Sahara. But there are no transmissions losses or politics.
Java's behavior is weird and annoying. I can only guess that they keep old versions just in case some website request it. But that seems unlikely. Hopefully they only keep they last, N, version of Java on your box and eventually start deleting.
I am pro freedom. Facebook users trade away some freedom when they use it. They probably aren't aware that they are. Its a tricky problem... banning people from Facebook doesn't promote freedom either. (Why is Facebook bad? It is growing so much it may soon "be the internet". Once company should not control the internet.)
LightPeak is reportedly nearly as fast as the LightPeek protocol which is currently use for transmitting "peeks" of cleavage in close proximity. Common applications include viewing plumber butt-crack and looking at the waitress's cleavage as she leans over the wipe the table.
Its pretty easy to take a fun house image and unmorph it back into a the source image. Once somebody does the work and makes the first program that does it, anybody can unmorph. People would like to see the scans of celebs.

Why should there be any charge! Not nice to small developers :(
It sounds like the Google engineer is taking the sane approach. He is trying stuff and testing the speed. Sounds like he'd try GPU if it helped.
Sounds like Akamai
That's super-doubleplus good.
Did I just see an Slashdot article summary that explained the acronym ??!!!
This sounds like overkill. How about two userids. The employer has the password the user "work" only.
"A reliable, cloud-based DNS service has been one of the most requested offerings by our customers" ... really?

I agree. I still like dmoz.
You'd think the page rank of and *.google.com domain would have a pretty good page rank. Lots of links to it.

I hope Facebook dies.
Good idea!

Well, this guy discovered something but wasted time he should have been working on his web app ;)

But, heck, if Diaspora has the mindshare maybe we should go with it... even if its not technically the greatest?
I saw The Social Network too.
But now the main reason to join FB is because your cousins/colleagues/etc are there.
That can change!

She has been around here for a while.

Shows a problem with benchmarks in general. Too easy to game.
