    Unfortunately, what congress and the courts don't seem to understand is that the sale of copyrights is unconstitutional:

    Article 1, Section 8, Clause 8:

    To promote the Progress of Science and useful Arts, by securing for limited Times to Authors and Inventors the exclusive Right to their respective Writings and Discoveries.
    • "To promote the Progress of Science and useful Arts,"
    • "by securing for limited Times"
    • "to Authors and Inventors"
    • "the exclusive Right to their respective Writings and Discoveries."
    What about that is so hard to understand? The writers of the U.S. Constitution granted the right to "Authors and Inventors", not patent trolls or recording companies. Granted, "limited time" is debatable as far as how to best promote progress, but the right being granted exclusively to the content creator is pretty clear.

    I agree with most of the people here that purchasing a key online is the best direction to go.

    However, if you can't or don't want to for some reason, you can still buy the same version of Windows XP that you have installed and reinstall without losing any files or programs. Basically, using the installer you can "repair" a broken install of Windows XP and the installer will replace system files on your computer, but nothing else will be messed with. See here:

    But isn't it also true that if enough consumers complained then the company's profits would suffer and they would be forced to change for economic reasons? I really see no reason for the government to step in in this case. Government enforcement in one area may just cause them to cut corners in another.

    A patent lawsuit may be the only option a small guy with an idea stolen by a big corp.

    Logically though, were there not a patent to begin with, the big corp. would be just as vulnerable to destruction as the little guy was.

    yup, did it with tor. wouldn't work on my debian unstable box, but after installing tor it worked without a hiccup. try it

    i googled "Bob Metcalfe" clunkers, that link was the second option after slashdot.

    and i'm curious to know where he gets the idea that a secure, advanced operating system can be built in the next few years. these 25-year-old clunkers still have a lot of work to do.

    Personally, as a highschooler, I would prefer to be offered free IT seminars and demonstrations. People really get interested when they have a means of seeing the potential in technology. If anything, a hot-rodding competition for computers would be my kind of thing. Sort of like an auto show for geeks. A lot of the computer geeks are mainly gamers, so to show them the potential gaming would be a hit. Overall, if their was a way for you to highlight computers via a free seminar, in all their glory and applications, it would be awesome. There have always been job expos, but what about tech job expos? With all that can be done with computers, why not show kids the future of computing, i.e. graphic design, gaming, communication, voice recognition, coding, and revolutionary new ideas in both hardware and software. You may not be able to do all of that all on your own, but I'm sure that there are people willing to help. And with computers, it doesn't have to cost a lot to make people's jaws drop.
