You got it half right, the problem on Linux is drivers or more precisely a driver stack that hasn't evolved since the days of Win9x. You can sit down and with basic math show that "let the devs handle it" just doesn't scale, even if you had ten times the amount of driver devs than Linux actually has they still wouldn't have enough hours in the day to fix all that gets pissed on when Torvalds and friends change a pointer.

I have taken XP drivers and ran them in Windows 7, taken XP X64 drivers and run them in 8.1 64bit, and until Linus fixes his mess of a driver stack so an OEM won't have to remake every driver when a new kernel comes out? Things are never gonna get any better which is why despite Windows 10 being nothing but spyware pretending to be an OS Linux will not gain even a single percentage point, not one.

The really sad part IMHO? I gave you a perfect test to rub in the dev's noses like rubbing a doggy nose in its poo, they say their driver model works? Show them the results of the Hairyfeet challenge and call 'em out on their bullshit. Instead I get called dirty names for actually expecting an OS to be able to update itself without destroying itself (gasp! shock!) and have FOSSies rush to defend them with classic memes like "its free you can't complain" or the ever hilarious "you should fix it" which is like saying you have a new car that can take on the new Mustang and when somebody asks to see it you hand 'em a pile of raw ore and say "here ya go, make it for me" LOL.

So take the challenge yourself, pick any of those "consumer friendly" distros and knock yourself out, then you will see why Linux doesn't gain any share and why I predict Valve will abandon SteamOS within 5 years, its because you can't build a strong house on a rotten foundation and the Linux driver model is rotten to the core.

This is why building new planes (instead of simply building more of the teen series) is not only wasteful its pointless, the planes we have now can already do more than any human body can take. instead of pissing more money down a rathole for the F35 we should simply buy more of the teen series and if the fighter jocks still want their 1980s "stealth" tech? Just buy the F15 Silent Eagle which the last numbers I saw showed you could buy 3 of them for less than the cost of a single F35 and still have change left over.

All the Chromiums, as well as IE and Edge? They all run by default in LRM and anybody who knows anything about security knows that you should always run software with the least permissions required to perform the task.

As for the tablets? The majority don't have rooted Android tablets so the adblock is moot as rooting is beyond the skillset of the majority, they will just consider the device "broken" and move on. I talked to the Gonzalez brothers (the Mexican bros that run the phone shop down the street, nice guys) and they said they haven't run into anything rooted that came into their shop and since they handle more phones and tablets in a day than I've handled in a year? I think their experience is a good sampling of how much rooting goes on in the wild. Glad that you were able to root yours but if even 5% of the tablets out there are rooted I'd be amazed.

And the people DO care when it comes to the programs because I HAVE been dealing with those "transformer style" hybrids, they have those for $150-$200 at the local Walmart and so are quite popular, #1 complaint? ":I can't get this to do (X)" where X is some feature the PC program has the Android version doesn't. Users simply do not understand that just because it LOOKS like a laptop does not mean it will ACT like a laptop and they get quite pissed when they find out they simply will never be able to do what they want it to. I have had quite a few go take theirs back and spend the money to get the Windows 8.1 version and promptly bring it back so I can "Make it work" and behave like their home system does. A little ClassicStart, a little loading their programs and voila! They are happy.

To think a user that is happy with X/Y/Z will be happy with just X is the classic Linux advocate mistake, the "as long as you have a browser its enough" but people today are VERY picky and they like what they like, especially when it comes to their programs. If you have a local Walmart Supercenter? Go in and try their sub $200 convertibles as THAT is what folks are getting. They are limited to just 1Gb of RAM (and all the OEM crap you can't uninstall is sucking a good half of that) with 8Gb of storage which for some damned reason the OEMs partition REALLY badly and by default the larger of the two can't have apps installed to it, and the keyboards? First came the obnoxious pop ups, I bet many here first started hating ads in the mid 90s when that shit started really blowing up. Remember when Java was the hot thing, they were even showing desktops running entirely in java and it was Java this and Java that? I personally believe all the fucking Java ads slamming the hell out of those P3s is what turned the masses off of Java...but then came Flash, and boy was that name ever apropos when it comes to ads as the first ones were an epileptic nightmare as they flashed images worse than a Japanese cartoon trying to get your attention. Nope because "hey we can blow their ears off and make 'em listen to our pitches, brilliant!" until it got to the point you couldn't have speakers in an office PC because you never knew when it would blow your ears out!

But of course the rotting elephant in the room is none of these ad corps or websites take responsibility for the malware they spread thus driving the final nail in the ad driven web coffin, because now its a severe security risk to allow ads to be loaded. I can tell everybody that once I switched all my users to browsers running ABP in low rights mode? Malware just dried up, in fact I can't remember the last nasty I saw on a PC that was running adblocking. And all those that scream about ABP and "acceptable ads" really need to look at the policy to become an acceptable ad, its the best practices I've been pushing for years, NO flash or java, NO sound, NO pop up/under/over, NO hidden redirects or misleading images like faking a security dialog box, in other words it is the kind of ads we used to not have to worry about, simple hyperlinks or non moving images.

So I'm sorry websites but you brought it upon yourselves, you had a good thing going and in the name of greed you shat all over it and made ads the plague blankets of the net. I'm proud to say I got banned from The Escapist for calling them out on their BS, they had Jim Sterling whine about how evil ABP was and I posted a link showing how many times The Escapist had shown malware infected ads and simply asked "So are you gonna take responsibility and pay for the damages to those you infect with your ads?". Wow you should have seen how quickly they started burying the thread and throwing the banhammer, didn't work as the whole narrative got switched to ads and malware. Of course this also blows the whole "religion of peace" BS as the Hadiths that have come for the last 200 years have been "jihad jihad jihad" and since they came later they supersede the earlier peaceful passages and since Muslims are allowed to lie to unbelievers to help spread the reach of Sharia this works to their advantage, simply quote the old passages and never mention they were replaced centuries ago by the jihad Hadiths.

Have you not wondered why these Islam apology groups can say they "condemn terrorism " or a specific terrorist but never come out and say this terrorism has broken the laws of Islam and should treat those that commit terrorism as not a follower of Islam? So that is just a hair below double the price...your arguments? Half of $309 is $154, the FX8350 is a grand $14 more than that on Amazon. And for the record I tell folks to get the FX8320 as there really is no point in the FX8350, you can get the same speed in less than 2 minutes with the 8320 (they ARE the same chip after all, just binned differently) and that $30 can go on your GPU or SSD. I personally took the FX8320E as I can also hit nearly the same as the FX8350 but I can drop lower when I don't need the extra power, thus saving me a few bucks on AC bills.

So its being a "fanboy" to not support corruption? Because the links I gave show beyond a shadow of a doubt, even Intel admitted it when they agreed to give every P4 owner $15 for rigging benches. Hell look up "Intel investigated" and see how many places are investigating them for their corrupt shit, or read for yourself what the CEOs of companies like Dell and Toshiba said during the deposition for the Intel VS AMD suit (which the DoJ allowed Intel to pay less than 6 months revenue at the time to buy their way out of 10+ years worth of dirty dealing. Wish I could get a deal like that) or again look at the results of benches compiled with ICC versus GCC, ICC does NOT speed up in any way, shape, or form Intel CPUs, its only result is to cripple any non Intel CPUs.

So if you wanna support corruption? That is your choice, I will not.

LOL you didn't say a God damned thing that did not in some way contain free or open. Which part of DO NOT GIVE A SHIT is so damned hard for you to understand?

Your competition is iOS, Android, and WinPhone...Name ONE feature, just one, that does not involve the words free or open in which your chosen OS is better. And don't waste our time with html v5 bullshit, because guess what? they COULD run HTML V5 bullshit apps but they DON'T, because native runs better, surprise surprise..

So you have had multiple posters tell ya put up or shut up, what are you waiting for? is it because you can't? Your posts didn't say a fucking thing other than "blah blah devs (nobody cares, not a developer), blah blah blah HTML V5 (shown to be a bloated pig, nobody cares) blah blah free and open (nobody cares about your politics)" so lets hear it, name a single feature that FXOS beats the competition, if you can't? Thanks yet again for proving my point.
