What support? Put a decent ROM on it and call it a day bro. I've been making nice extra Xmas money doing exactly that and the "support" consists of putting in their Gmail and showing them how to load ringtones (my personal fav is aura Ringtones as it has the sound effects most folks seem to want) and that is it. Thumbs up on dolphin BTW, I've tried over a dozen browsers and nothing beats the dolphin when it comes to android.
And while I 100% agree we shouldn't HAVE to as long as the press keeps sucking apple's dick and letting them get away with shit (not a single website pointed out killing flash helped their lock in? Really?) and the OEMs keep putting out bloated shitty Android versions what choice do we have? just stay away from AOSP and Cyanogen and you'll be fine, both of those are frankly too generic to be worth a crap. Best to do a search for your device and see who has the best ROM for that model, since Straighttalk and net10 are popular in my area its Area51 ROMs, they have flash preloaded on most along with Android Assistant and App2SD but YMMV, good luck!
Dude hack the thing! Its Android, the only good thing about Android is if your device don't do what you want it to do? ROM the shit out of the thing. hell my phone is from 2011, was slow as shit...with the default ROM. I put in the Area51 ROM for my phone? Not only did it comes with flash already installed but its a damned nice phone now, just a pleasure to use. i was planning on getting another phone but now i think I'll just get the larger battery for this one and call it a day.
But if the rumors are true you can thank Cupertino for adobe killing flash on android as well, the rumors are that Apple made it clear adobe would be a second class citizen on their platform if they kept flash and Adobe makes too much money of of Apple hipsters to risk that for a free player so they killed it. As for why you haven't seen squat when it comes to HTML V5? Its simple dude, take ANY video and encode 2 versions, same resolution and FPS, make one flash with Spark or VP6 and the other H.264 compatible with HTML V5 and see what you get. I can tell you that the flash video will play smoothly even on this 800Mhz single core ARM phone while the H.264 will choke anything less than a 1.2Ghz dual core without hardware acceleration and even WITH acceleration it'll suck down cycles like a drunk hitting a free mini-bar.
Actually I'll probably get hate from the left for pointing this out, but know where most gun control laws started as? "Fear of an armed negro". Go ahead, look it up, type that phrase into Google and there are several videos detailing the history of gun control laws in the USA, the first one of which was right after the civil war and was targeted at recently freed slaves.
Why do you think that damned near ALL the guns they demonize are cheap guns? Remember the whole stink over 25s and Saturday Night Specials? Blacks could afford those. And does anybody think these laws will affect somebody who makes 100k a year? Nope cheaper guns means more blacks could afford guns and again "fear of an armed negro" comes into play.
Uhhh...sorry but that would be like saying "Hitler was the ultimate capitalist" since he lets his corps run wild, use slaves and all that. there is a BIG DIFFERENCE between a socialist state like say Sweden or Denmark and a cult of personality totalitarian regime like Stalin's USSR or North Korea, BIG fucking difference.
Stalin, like Hitler with national socialism, was strictly paying lip service, the only thing Stalin cared about was Stalin. A dictator is a dictator, doesn't matter what politics they hide behind, the end result of repression and brutality stays the same.
Yeah what do you need that safety glass in that windshield for? that regular glass kept the rain out of your face just fine!
Got news for ya Sparky there is A REASON why we whine about users still on XP, because as the guy that has to work on them i can tell you more than 85% of them are running as admin, a good half have little to no antivirus and spyware protection, and a good 75%+ has more nasties than a Bangkok whore on coupon day. Say what you will about win 7 but at least it defaults to a limited user and will let you know when your AV is out of date, XP will happily let them run that 30 day trial of norton from 2002 and not say a word.
But whose fault is that? Put the blame where it lies, Steve jobs trying to push his appstore crapstore lock in. I have flash on my fricking THREE YEAR OLD single core cellphone and ya know what? plays great. try HTML V5 with H.264 on anything less than a dual core and see what you get, even with hardware acceleration its a fricking pig.
So call a spade a spade, the killing of flash on mobile didn't have a damned thing to do with compatibility, or battery life, it had to do with Steve jobs making damned sure you weren't getting shit on that iPad without giving him 30%.
I think the bigger point is FF's updates break shit and the Chromium based? Don't. Simple as that. Been on Comodo dragon since V2, now on V30, with ZERO plugin breakage. With FF my plug ins broke no less than 6 times before I finally gave up and made the switch.
BTW while I'm on a rant, WTF is it with the Gecko engine and "senior moments"? You know, where it hangs or stutters, not enough to make you think its frozen, just enough to irritate? I can run any of the Chromium based, and fricking IE for that matter, on a little Bobcat netbook all day long and as long as I stick to SD video its smooth. With any of the Gecko based (FF,Waterdragon, Pale Moon, etc) they will have senior moments even on my hexacore? WTF FF Devs? And don't even get me started on FF Mobile, I thought FF 2 was a piggie, damn.
But at the end of the day nobody would give a rat's ass if FF changed numbers every 5 minutes if it didn't break shit. After all i didn't even know what version of Dragon I was on until I hit about, I honestly thought it was V22 or V23, because everything has stayed the same as far as functionality and performance. if anything I'd say since the Moz team started focusing on sailphones that the gecko engine on the desktop has if anything gone backwards, with performance IMHO as far as senior moments and breakages getting more noticeable.
Uhhh...why would they want to? The cell phone market is a shark tank right now, between the big Chinese companies like ZTE and Huawei cranking out some nice low end smartphones to LG and their sliders to Samsung dominating the high end frankly they couldn't pick a worse time to be a hardware maker.
Say what you will about the deal but they kept all the profitable bits and sold the ones that were going downhill, a smart move in my book. Thanks to Android being the Windows of mobile you'll see a huge race to the bottom and while Samsung may be able to carve out a slice at the high end everybody else? Having to make due on razor thin margins.
YES! To me THIS should be the defining issue, that the state "play favorites" with regards to everything from taxes to benefits based on whether or not one is married which shouldn't be their damned business in the first place!
Separation of church and state should be just that, separate. The main problems that gays have regarding marriage right now if you actually sit down and talk to them end up coming not from the church but the state, for an example my mom worked with a nice gay couple at the hospital. After nearly 30 years of being together one was killed by a drunk driver but because the state recognized common law for male/female but NOT gays the survivor had ZERO rights and the parents of the dead partner, who just FYI had disowned him more than 40 years before and refused to even allowed him to be buried in the family cemetery, were able to come in like vultures and sell everything that he owned.
If the states are gonna have laws like common law marriage they should apply equally or not at all, same goes for things like insurance and benefits. It reminds me of how in the 50s and 60s the same arguments were being used against mixed race couples and before that Jews and non-Jews in the 30s. Either we are all equal under the law or the law is a sham and for too long its been the latter.
Heck depending on the board you may not even need to buy a newer machine even then, just slap in a new board. We had a power surge about 6 months ago that took out the youngest boy's board, know how much it cost for a board that supported 32Gb of RAM, crossfire and octocore CPUs? $70. We slapped in an old Athlon X3 i had lying in a drawer, took about 5 seconds to unlock it to a Phenom X4 and he has been happily playing the latest shooters without problem.
The simple fact is programming for SMP is INSANELY hard and the programs haven't even come close to keeping up with the hardware. that goes for Linux as well as i recently tested the latest PCLOS and Ubuntu and they frankly don't do any better at SMP than Windows does at this point. I play the latest shooters, Metro LL and Far Cry 3 and my 4 year old AMD Hexa with 8GB of RAM and HD7750 cranks up the purty and stays above 30 FPS throughout the entire game, so why should I buy a new system?
BTW you notice that the ONLY ones here complaining about the end of Moore's law are the ones doing jobs that frankly MAYBE 0.001% of the population would EVER do? 10bit video? DVDs still outsell Blu Ray by something like 40 to 1 so obviously the public isn't interested in ultra HD. Computational Fluid Dynamics? hell I don't even know what the fuck that is, Joe and Jane Normal sure as hell ain't buying boxes to work on this crap. Seems like a job for a grid computing solution anyway.
Like it or not the computers, including tablets and phones, have gotten several orders of magnitude more powerful while the work that the normal folks have for them has stayed the same. The customers that walk into the shop today? Have the exact same uses and problems as those that walked into my shop a decade ago. surfing, video, email, games, its the same jobs. And now that you can get quad core laptops for less than $350 and quad tablets for sub $150? Like X86 the mobile market will quickly become saturated just as the desktop market did.
The problem is for the vast majority? To use a car analogy its like using a top fuel funny car to go to the store for milk, they have more power than they can possibly use.
Take my dad for example, he is the perfect "Joe Average" user. he uses social media, watches videos, uses his bookkeeping software, the kind of everyday tasks the majority do daily. When the price dropped on the Phenom IIs to make way for the FX I thought "Well it has been awhile since I built him that Phenom I quad so maybe its time for an upgrade" and ran a usage monitor for a week to see how bad he was hitting the CPU,what did I find? 35%. That is the average amount of usage that quad was getting. Sure he'd get occasionally over 50% but that was only for a few seconds.
And THAT is why its really not gonna matter to Joe and Jane average, because their systems already idle more than they run and the prices are already crazy cheap. I mean I just got dad a quad core Android tablet for Xmas.,..think he'll EVER come up with enough to do to peg all 4 cores enough that an upgrade would help? Not likely. Hell I was the guy that built a new system every other year with a major overhaul on the odd years, now? My system is 4 years old and I have zero reason to upgrade to a new one. Why should I? I have a hexacore, 8Gb of RAM, 3TB of HDD, the only thing I upgraded was my HD4850 for an HD7750 and even that was about lowering heat and not performance.
Lets face it, Moore's Law made systems several orders more powerful than the work the masses can come up for them to do. Who cares if Moore's Law finally winds down when the systems are so powerful they spend more time idling than anything else?
I always tell my customers to look around, killer passwords are everywhere. The street signs in front of your house? Take the first three letters of the first cross street in front of your home, add your street number. Carry your phone everywhere? Go to about phone and take the first few letters/numbers from each field. And there is a bazillion apps out there that will save passwords and even generate them on demand.
The problem is that folks have had it drummed into their heads that they have to "make up" passwords all the time and because most simply suck at that task you get these really simple passwords when in reality you are surrounded by really good passwords and just never notice.
Uhhh...just FYI? Rohm and the SA leadership were pretty much ALL gay and Hitler and pals didn't have a problem with it until Rohm started talking about a "second revolution" because he thought "the little colonel" had betrayed the socialist part of national socialism, just FYI.
I wonder if they bust OTHER hate groups, like the mosques that preach hate, or the other "* Power" groups? Wanna bet the answer is no?
You see THIS is the problem I have with so called "hate crimes" (like someone is gonna bash your head in because they like you) is because you ALWAYS seem to end up with "protected classes" and "acceptable racism", for examples see black power versus white power (Protip: Both are run by racists that incite violence) or how the Muslims in this country can burn bibles and American flags all day but that preacher said he was gonna burn a koran and got thrown in jail.
Either the law is the law, equal for all, or its just so much politically correct farce and sadly more and more in the west the law has become the latter, with certain groups being ignored when they are racists while others are punished. If racism is wrong then its wrong across the board, all this politically correct bullshit does is make old hatreds fester and give the racists plenty of recruitment fodder.
You are close to the reason but as a retailer I'll tell ya what is REALLY going on.
Its really VERY simple and the reason PC sales have flatlined is NOT folks suddenly going to sailphones, not replacing their PCs with tablets, the really truly true reason why PC sales have stopped? PCs went from "good enough" to insanely overpowered and now even the bottom of the line PC is overkill for Joe and Jane Average. I mean look at the specs of the bottom of the line I was selling FIVE years ago....Phenom or Athlon X3 with 4Gb of RAM and 500Gb hdd. Now how many folks are gonna be able to max that out? Hell I paired an Athlon X3 (unlocked to a Phenom II X4) with an HD7790 and my youngest is playing all the latest shooters on it!
So THAT, that right there, is the problem. Software simply didn't keep up with the incredible advances in hardware and now most PCs spend a good 60%+ of their lives in idle. Its no wonder why AMD and Intel aren't really working on releasing new chips, why should they, when the ones they release now are so insanely badass? hell I can put together a hexacore loaded to the gills and slap it in a customer's hands for less than $500!
Not to mention those that have the money to buy such cars? Tend to be rich arrogant douchebags who don't have any damned sense!
Sorry folks but sometimes stereotypes are true and "rich arrogant prick with daddy's money" is sadly all too true. I mean there is a reason why most racing teams aren't owned by the drivers, often skill and money don't go hand in hand! I live next to a college where a lot of "richie rich" types go and it never fails, we end up scraping rich kids and their overpowered toys off of trees and overpasses every year. If we are lucky they ONLY kill themselves, if not? Well the family writes a big fat check and makes the problem go away.
I mean look at Walker, whom it was reported had one of these cars (although he wasn't driving that day) in his garage.....he's a fucking ACTOR who PLAYED a race car driver folks! Anybody here thinks he really had the skills to handle one of these monsters if it started getting away from him? Show of hands?...Thought so.
So I'm all for a true free market so if they want to sell these? Fine and dandy.....they should have to pass a course showing they can handle the thing at the speeds these are designed for! Many on the left want proof you have taken a gun course before you can own a gun, how is this any different? You can do a HELL of a lot more damage with a couple of tons hurdling at 180 MPH+ than you can with a revolver and these monsters are DESIGNED to be run at insane speeds, they handle like shit at low speeds.
Look, back in the day I owned my fair share of hot rodded muscle cars so....I get the appeal, okay? Just like the pocket rocket bikes they are fun to drive. But I was lucky enough that there is a large flat abandoned piece of highway nearby that you can see for miles and miles on so its pretty safe for hot rodders, most places have too much traffic to let a monster off the chain. If they are gonna sell these race cars as street cars at least make 'em show they can handle the thing, okay? I really don't think that is too much to ask when you could easily wipe out an entire family with one bad curve.
Actually the reason why boycotts never work against the *.A.As is that they use "PPT Math" which means they always win. Let me give an example..
Evil corp, lets call them FNJ, has an artist, lets say Titney Steers is her name, that sold X amount last year. So the PHBs come up with a PPT that shows that if they sold X last year thanks to their incredible "shit don't stink(TM)" ad campaign then album Y MUST sell X*Y...if it don't? why its teh evil piratez and they take the PPT to their congress whores and gets more draconian laws and copyright extensions, its a win/win for them!
So you see if every single person on the planet outright refused to so much as listen to Titney Steers new "I'm a big skanky Ho" single they would just get more laws, maybe if they bribed enough even a "too big to fail" bailout, so they CAN NOT LOSE no matter which way they go!
I bring citations, you bring bullshit so step up or STFU. as for Torvalds, you mean the same guy that acts like a spoiled 14 year old halo player and who has kept a 40+ year old driver model because of politics?
Yeah i know EXACTLY who he is, he is the guy that has been holding Linux back this past decade. I'll say of Linus what RMS said of Jobs "I won't be glad he's dead but I'll be glad he's gone" and in my case DAMN glad he's gone, maybe some actual innovation and progress will happen at the kernel level instead of a bunch of old farts holding everything back and running everyone not their age off.
Well I've had to work on some of those "poor man's RTOS" and they all required ISA as they were being used to drive CNCs and other automation through specialized ISA boards. There is a lumber company that right now is using my very first gaming PC (a 100MHz Pentium I with 32Mb and a 2Gb HDD) as a lathe controller using ISA and the reason why they paid out the behind to have me throw them my old gear (this was in 06) was the simple facts that 1.- The company that built the lathe went out of business over a decade ago, and 2.- A replacement would cost north of $100K.
But that STILL don't explain WTF this is for! Like I said no ISA makes it a non starter for the legacy control systems, if they strictly want a tiny embeded the ARM units are better supported and if all they want is something to run some legacy Windows crap the AMD Bobcat has hardware VM and runs rings around that system....so who in the hell is buying 300Mhz PIIs and for what?
Two names...Cliff Burton and Lars Ulrich. Cliff was the one that bitchslapped the rest of the guys in line and while they were able to stay true to the band for a few albums after that once Lars became band leader over Hetfield (who was having a well publicized battle with the bottle) things went to shit. Lars has always been a greedy little shit, you watch the early interviews and you can practically see dollar signs in his eyes when he talks about making it big.
Frankly I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall for the "new direction" meetings as I really wouldn't be surprised if Lars broke out charts and focus groups. That is why I really wasn't surprised when Newsted bailed, what amazed me was he lasted as long as he did as he went from being in Cliff's shoes to backing something that would sound at home on the van tours, bleech.
Its no different than Rush. To non fans its all "prog rock" but listen to the first album followed by 2112 and Moving Pictures and then A Show Of Hands/Roll The Bones finishing up with Clockwork Angels? You can see how the band has shifted in flavor and tone over the years.
The REAL title of TFA should be "Record labels fuck bands that fans keep alive, News At 11" because lets face it the bands haven't been making shit on the albums since the days of Little Richard, its the live shows that most bands earn their daily bread and maiden gives a big bang for the buck. the reason why so many of these new acts scream about piracy is because they CAN'T DO IT LIVE, I mean God fucking forbid the power go out on the autotune with a LOT of these new singers or they would sound like cats in a blender! And while its true that Maiden puts on a big show frankly they could walk on ANY stage and slaughter, those guys are badass musicians that don't need tricks and it shows.
Linux is a broken mes (feel free to ask for citations or type "Linux broken (insert drivers, Pulse, X, wireless)" into the search engine of your choice) and OSX requires new hardware every couple of years as their length of support is frankly a joke.
Meanwhile I have more systems than I can count out in the field that went from XP to 7 with ZERO issues, the oldest being a circa 2005 3GHz P4 with 1.5Gb of RAM, runs Win 7 just fine. This system has run Win 7 since RTM and before that WinXP X64 again with no issues.
Ya know if you weren't a raging fanboi I'd tell you to try a version of Windows that isn't from the stone ages but its obvious you haven't used windows since XP RTM so why waste my time? Enjoy your forum hunts and "open up bash and type but the rest of the free world has better shit to do than spend our time fixing Torvalds fuckups. The article we had the other day talking about how nobody wanted to work on the kernel and the devs were getting ancient was a telling one, just shows how toxic Linux development has become. maybe when Torvalds passes google will just take the whole thing private and make something decent, until then there is a reason why MSFT can put out the most hated version since MS Bob and get more users in the first month than Linux has gotten in 20 years and that is because it "just works" which is a hell of a lot more than can be said for Torvalds plaything.
Better yet get rid of an OS that is now FOUR versions behind, how about that?
When XP came out the average PC was a P3 of less than a GHz and 128Mb - 256Mb of RAM. You were just starting to see 512Mb machines but like the GHz systems they were pretty damned expensive. Yes XP is THAT old.
I mean we'd laugh and think somebody was nuts if they were running Android 1.0, or OS 9 right? So why would we think someone was any less nuts for running a 12 year old OS four versions behind? Because MSFT puts out patches? Those patches won't magically get rid of the brain dead ideas baked into XP like always running as admin being the default state,or how little thought had been put into the Internet being a threat, hell they didn't have the firewall on by default until SP2!
So just let the damned thing die already, okay? If you are too cheap or too poor to let go of that ancient POS that won't run any newer Windows you can grab one of dozen of distros for nothing, but XP really needs to join win9X in OS heaven. Like Win2K before it it was great in its time but that time has past folks.
Bullshit. Your post would be true if Id gave Quake 5 as GPL right out the gate but they will NEVER EVER in a million years do that, why? Because they would lose their ass, that's why.
Giving away something you've already squeezed the last cent of profit out of is NOT "supporting the GPL", its a publicity stunt, no different than Pumpkin Studios throwing their Warzone 2100 out there after the company went tits up.
BTW did you notice how laughably pathetic the quality of anything the community made with Q3 is? Again it shows that with zero chance of profit all you will get is strictly amateur hour hobbyists. To this day all you get are badly skinned versions of the same DM/CTF Q3 Arena bullshit. The community has had it for ages and haven't even come up with a single original thought, not one.

Anybody else remember the commercials they ran when that law was passed? i remember an Eskimo getting a fan in the mail and was like "Gee...thanks".
As for TFA surely the EU has a similar law, otherwise what would keep the bogus sales scams from picking on the old folks over there?
Dude hack the thing! Its Android, the only good thing about Android is if your device don't do what you want it to do?
