So what if they are based on older franchises? Since when does that matter. No one complained when Nintendo brought M64 over to the DS.

I'm sure I will be marked a troll again for saying this as it seems a lot of people on slashdot games are a little sensitive about their Xbox, but it needs to be said. This won't change things. The Xbox2 won't sell in Japan. Nothing short of MS having a Japanese company sell their console in the land of the rising sun under their own name will change this. The Japanese won't by large buy and American made video game system.
Look guys all I was trying to say is if you bought bought consoles at launch then you are going to get more total years of life out of the PS2 then the Xbox. This is a fact.
As for which one I play more, that's the PS2 also. It has the best library of games. I do own all three major consoles,FYI.

I am sick and tired of people bashing Sony for this or for the demos they have shown. Let us finally face facts and realize that Sony's PS2 has proven itself. You remember those face demos they showed before the system launched? Silent Hill 4 easily passed them already. If anything the PS2 has proven itself better then Sony originally claimed.
I have to agree. While Sony has shown to have created game machines in the past with defects, it seems to me that whenever Nintendo or MS do the same thing it gets overlooked by a lot of people. Most of it comes from the fact that since Sony is the market leader people like to pick on them.

Glad to see I am not the only one amazed by this. PS2 = $299 for 6 years Xbox = $299 for 4 years PS2 was easily a better value.
MS can't sell consoles in Japan. Sony can. PS3 will outsell the Xbox2 easily.
