I don't know about you, but I can enjoy a game if it just meets the criteria of being fun and challenging. I bought a PS2 at launch, and then moved to GameCube primarily because of the fact that most PS2 games were braindead blood and guts fests. Little do you realize that all of the games loaded with T&A and graphic violence are for the teenage demographic, because they are nothing but immature tittilation of basic senses. Now, tell me that there is NOTHING for the "older" demographic in this list of the top GC games. I don't mean to be a jerk, but understand that at one point I wasn't very discerning in my game choices either and I just hope that people can "see the light."

"It certainly will not apply to the casual seller on eBay, but might apply to anyone who sells a lot," he said. "If someone buys and sells on eBay on a regular basis as a type of business, then there is a need for regulation."

This is not a bad step to take. It really won't apply to the casual seller. The point is to provide some protection if the consumers get screwed by a business that is using auctions as the main method of business. The law itself is also directly aimed at real auction houses, not just eBay.

And, as a spokesperson from eBay said:

Hani Durzy, eBay spokesman, said the company has reviewed Ohio's law and is not concerned.

"We do not believe the law applies to people who sell items on eBay or to eBay itself," he told the paper.

But when buying a used CD, you are buying the license to that particular record for your personal use. That's the way it works. When you sell (or give away) a CD to someone else you transfer your license to listen to them too. As far as money for the artist goes, there are only so many CDs out there. If a record is good enough, then people will be keeping theirs and nobody will be buying it used, so it's not going to impact the artist, and in fact they are getting what they deserve for making a good album. If an artist puts out a piece of garbage that has had one song pushed on MTV or the top-40 radio stations, then people are going to pass it around like an ugly stripper at a frat party. The artist doesn't see any money after the first sale... but do they really deserve to? Probably not. I can care less if 50 Cent is only selling 100000 new CDs this year instead of 300000 because of used CD sales.

    Dear AC,

RTFA. The kid took the gun from the officer. And saying that you're "more likely to be killed by a pig than a terrorist" only holds true to the extent that, truly, a violent criminial is more likely to be killed by a cop than a terrorist. I, personally, am not any more likely to be killed by a police officer than a terrorist considering my lifestyle and working in important federal buildings.

I totally agree with you about the gun culture though. I wish guns could be effectively restricted to those who truly do need to exercise that kind of force. But, as they say, when guns are outlawed only outlaws will have guns. That's why effective gun control is necessary. Criminals must not be able to acquire guns. That would require an enormous and dangerous law enforcement effort in controlling a (now exclusively black) market of deadly weapons.

I really hope this doesn't get modded down as "troll," but I think others will agree with me. I think this distro is kind of sad, in a way. Looking at the screenshots of this "Linux" distro is like looking at a theme on Windows XP, complete with "My Computer," and then some ripoff Mac OS X icons (iChat, anyone)! Their web site even looks like Apple's web site's crack baby. What happened to innovation demanding attention over imitation? How about IMPROVING on the Windows and, sorry to say this, Linux (Gnome/KDE) user interfaces. Users that want to feel at home can stay at home. If users want the improved security of linux, then they can have it... but why not offer something innovative in the interface/experience department, instead of putting tons and tons of effort into making things more "Windows-friendly." The CNR system is, in my opinion, a Very Good Thing for Linspire users, and is a commendable effort at truly usable package management for users.

I also like the Wolfenstein Enemy Territory CNR page, where the screenshots are of the title, the map, and the mission briefing.

Now, I'm going to put my money where my mouth is and improve on GNUSTEP's interface.

I wish I had points to mod this down. Have you ever heard of senator Joe Lieberman? He was and is one of the most active people in politics against video games... still doesn't ring a bell? He was Al Gore's vice presidential nominee, for one thing. Anthony Williams? He's backing a bill to ban sale of M rated games to minors in DC. Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich wants to make it illegal in his state. All of them are Democrats. Democrats are leading the charge against video games. Plus, there are no "Republican censorship standards" that I know of. Please provide evidence of institutionalized censorship by Republicans before making the claim.

My personal experiences prove this to be dead wrong... I have a 40GB hard drive in my PowerBook, which is just too small for downloading 3 hours worth of DV tapes at a time. So, I picked up a 160GB firewire/USB drive that was on sale at Circuit City. When I got it home, I immediately started ripping the tapes to DV streams in iMovie. The thing that really speaks for the bandwidth capabilities of FireWire is that the Bus was arranged like so:

    [PowerBook][Ext. Drive][DV Camcorder]

So over FireWire I am capable of taking the incoming DV stream from the camera through the drive's hub, and then display the video on-screen while sending it back out the same port that it came in on to a hard drive that is writing it on the fly. That's good enough for me!

Assuming you're running a *nix system: Make a PHP/Perl/Python/etc. script that logs the client IP address to a file on a server somewhere. Now, put a cron job on your system that runs "curl -o /dev/null http://www.someserver.com/yourscript.php" to "phone home" and track the IP activity. You can even make it smart enough to only record a new IP address and resolve the IP to a (relatively close... if by close you mean state-wide) geographic location. I hope you made sure to include Windows XP Pro (NOT Home) and some antivirus/firewall/anti-spyware software in that price, because you will need it if you plan on running Windows.

How much is a fully-integrated hardware platform with no reason to worry about viruses or spyware worth? Apparently, it will save you a few dollars.
