Xandros is the best Linux distro for the mom and pop. I know, I installed it for all my relatives. Never crashes, easy to install new software (stuff they provide) has pptp vpn, dvd burning, tons of features and its only $40. I also have no problems installing apps for Debian.
We have already upgraded 10 or so people from Windows to Xandros pro (79 version) and the thing even runs office xp... Simply love it.
Xandros is coming out with a server version this year, making email, web, ftp, easy for Windows oriented people to go to...
...that Microsoft things actually work... our Windows 2000 servers, some have been up for over 2 years now, Windows XP does not crash... but what, it all took years of torture... hopefully they will not screw it up...
Sun is spreading itself too thin. They support Linux, Solaris, Java, Windows and one or two others. No one wants to admit that Unix is dead. Given the choice, people run Linux, and then maybe a VM session of a Unix (inside of Linux).
I like the MAC hardware, I hate OSX. I have two MACs . A new one (g5) and an older one. I have Linux on both of them. So much better than the bloated OSX.
Please do not spread bad information. I spent years in Switzerland and you can buy a gun anywhere, legally, and people have guns in homes. And people are not against guns because they dont think about them. Its just a tool, like a rake, etc.
hey now, i never said i hated the mac, i said the company sucks because they were around 20+ years with less than 5% market share. apple is using similar tactics to scox and this really pissing me off. information is information - if apple can't contain it, dont go after the publisher. the unity at apple is gone because too many people there got shafted and this is a culture issue apple must address.
Apple sucks - They are just as sue happy as SCOX. One goes after open source, Apple goes after your 1st amendment rights. Anyone that supports this company is a bone head. They pull these scare tactics all the time. I hope the kid doesn't budge and win. Maybe Apple doesn't understand the internet and that you can't control information. If this kid goes under, some other kid in Sweden can open a site and do the same crap. But then what do you expect from a company that has been around 20+ years and has a market share of under 5%.
I will download a movie release, which is usually bad quality, and if i like it, i will go out and buy the dvd. I do not go to the movie theaters. I buy dvds all the time, or i rent them from netflix.

I hope all these types of games close down! Kids need to go outside and do some physical activities. I believe these types of games skew reality for a lot of people. I am already interviewing college grads, who are great coders, who can't relate to people. However, when I ask them their handle on World of Warcraft, they go on telling me all about it - and the excitement in their eyes scares the hell out of me. I then ask them, what do you do outside this game - and I get a blank stare.
If people thought like you, there would never have been Boston Tea party and we would still be a colony under the Brits. Sometimes you have to break the law.
If Indian schools are so superior and the folks are so smart, I would assume that the police would at least know the difference between a monitor and the PC. Oh well.
Apple will be the next record label, but they will not be what the labels are today. They will have direct relationship with the artists and the consumers, eliminating any distribution channels but Itunes. This will happen within 3 years. Watch!!
