Next stop Google OS. Baset on? Not linux i hope. Something new and innovative... And BRILANT that will run on PS3? =) Who cares!
Not "Google OS" but "Google OS independence". WIth that you could throw away your windows license and why not? use gOffice from your PS3. only i think it might not be out until PS4 is out.
i have this hunch myself, that the mistery of what they are building in there isn't what's driving bill gates crazy. he already knows what google can do and that wakes him up at night sweating cold.
and what is that? you ask. well, my guess is simple: they're building google office (gOffice for shorts).
and what is that? it's a free service, accesible through the internet with the functional equivalents of word, excel, outlook and powerpoint. totally built on web standards so you can use it from any device with any operative system. e.g. good night bill
gOffice backs up the theory of a titanic datacenter. of course it will not come out next year but that is my guess and i'm very sure that in maybe less than a decade you all will be linking to this very post saying 'this has been predicted before'
Why do you discuss nonsense so much?
Do you think that your awesome mega powerful display of mindpower in a bbs will erradicate the OS you dislike?
Imagine Billy saying "oh boy! this ModemButterfly guy at Slashdot thinks windows sucks... Ok people let's all pack our stuff and leave forever"
We all have our differences in taste.
You know what I'd really like? That we all stop arguing about which OS should be evaporated and teach the common user to install Linux and Windows in the same machine and not having to choose between the two.
I like both. I love Slackware and Gentoo and WinXP and Win2K3 -don't have MacOS 'cause I can't afford a Mac- and I recognize they're all good and thanks the Great Magnet, They're very different!
I envy you. I'm a programmer and I'd like to learn to take the most advantage out of algorithms but my school isn't any good and I have to learn all the stuff that interests me by myself while doing stupid VisualBasic.net homework excercises. I had a data structures and algorithms course but it sucked.
I've read here and there about algorithms but with what I've learned I haven't been able to use them. I have to reinvent the wheel cheesely almost everytime I find a situation where I know algorithms should be used.
Can you give me some pointer to where to start learning by myself? Also I found a couple algorithm dictionaries but they're not very useful to me since I'm not that familiar with the terms.
Thanks and sorry for the rookie-newbie-whiny-off-topicness.
I agree absolutely. I think almost everybody here is confusing the synthetizer with the musician.
art should have form and content, the program provides the form, while the content is in the code, that's where the intention of the artist (programmer) is.
think about sculpture. sculpture has the unique attribute of changing its apparent form (output) depending on the point of view (input), so, can you say that a sculpture is not art when its seen from behind? no. well the programmer found a way to make his sculpture (typogenerator) generate endless forms (images) depending on the input of the viewer.
in this case the work of art is not what the program does, but the program itself. the artist is not the computer, but the programmer.
Because linux is sooooo perfect that only the gods use it. Oh and linux is sooo user-friendly that its users are not arrogant at all about considering themselves computing gods!!!
macs are a different story. they're expensive. and there's nevere enough software for the mac.
I do like linux and its users but c'mon. You know a bunch of you are very conceited. Microsoft is still best at *showing* an attractive and friendly face to it's end users.
Why people doesn't like reading better than stupid football/soap operas that's a mistery.
Oh I'm glad to learn that. But my point is that I don't believe releasing BRL-CAD is an altruistic move for the sake of open source from the military. Even tough you say it's still in active use, I don't believe it still used as a main military r&d tool. Sure it is a good thing they've released it as OS and it surely can be qualified as an act of good will. In a way I still believe they're giving away their waste and it could be better if they could release the tools they're actually using. That for the advancement of computer science and the open source community.
Please don't take my comments as a complaint. I'm just observing that it could be better.
Of course they're not using it anymore. They wont GPL the software they currently need and use, I smell like they GPLed their wastes. IMO
pd. by "waste" I don't mean the quality of the software, just that they should be using something else now.
Hey this guy had no family to support and he could live from his savings. I have a family and even tough I'd love to have a job as rewarding as that one, my savings wouldn't last more than a month.
That guy should be praised as he excersiced his choice to do a somewhat heroic task yet he always had the right to be paid for what he did.
The story doesn't say so but in the end I believe he should have got more than smart friends and seller badges from his project, and that's ok for me.
There's a mistake in (L=Lp*sqrt(1-v^2/c^2)). It should be (L=Lp*sqrt(1-v^2)/c^2)

THanks!! I'll check it out.
