Ack. I use Gmail as a [somewhat funky] IMAP server. If they make that even worse, I'll just go find IMAP somewhere else. I'd tired of running my own server for my personal domain.
There's plenty of tech talent in Seattle; Amazon saves $ though by bringing in a large fraction of the workforce from India, so if Seattle is getting whiter, it sure isn't due to Amazon directly.
Also TFA describes not a drive, but a PCI card. I can readily source a 1U chassis with 10 SFF disk bays, but not with 10 PCI slots. And PCI cards aren't nearly as hot-swappable. So more needs to happen before a product like this fills more than a niche.
With high capacity tier 3 drives, one reason that RAID 6 (or a RAID 50 setup with tiers/groups of disks) is used is because it can take days to rebuild a blown drive.
Wish I had mod points -- this is soooo often overlooked. And one reason why I love to mirror 3 ways.
So, I should rack up credit card debit at a higher interest rate than investment would return, and default on my mortgage? Doesn't seem like a strategy to me.
Retire on what money? With rent there's no equity building, it's all down the drain. That's why people buy.
I switched jobs in January of this year. Big west coast company, you've heard of them. No relocation.
Shared walls are *always* too loud.
I'm pessimistic because I live in the real world where people don't die at Carousel when they turn 30.
So what does a renter do when he/she turns 65 or 70 and can't drop $3500/mo on rent for a dump in SF? Head to a homeless shelter?
Ownership is about equity. In dense urban settings there are *no* nice places to rent or even buy. No yard. Shared walls. Neighbors who aren't douchebags are a rarity.
Sure big companies have relocation packages. Management gets them. The rest of us no longer do.
And it's more like 20% more pay with 100% more expenses.
Peering is done with symmetric connections. Last mile consumer isn't -- the wire's capabilities are generally allocated more for downstream than upstream traffic.
This is sophistry.
I wonder if even the BCPL could be compiled today.
Altos were great for showing the coke machine status through the window of the 3rd floor CS lab. Oh the days of the much-sought X1 key.
Bonus points for anyone who gets that reference.
I do. I learned it in 1990.
For the the most annoying thing about TFA is the use of the word "womb", as if this were 1814 not 2014. Are we really afraid of the word UTERUS?
My understanding is that most batteries, even if dropped in a designated bin, are still landfilled.

Millions of people have pet dinosaurs today.

Now that the big stuff is being filtered out of the diesel exhaust
... if only that were true.
Agreed. Diesels can get somewhat better mileage, at a higher cost per gallon.
Or maybe they just really like Zippy.
There also the bogus assumptions that 1) Alerts will actually make it to the cops 2) They actively monitor them and 3) They'd respond quickly.

For these numbers to be true, people of Indian descent must be classified as White vs. Asian.

Because men 6ft tall are unacceptable? Is this science, or a dating service?
Didn't this all get sorted out decades ago with Amdahl vs IBM ??
Oh, so you like using a serial console too? Video consoles are stupid. Sluggish across oceans, Java hassles, cut/paste doesn't work.
I Doubt any kind of genital surgery was common in the 19th century
Seriously? When do you think circumcision, castration, and orchiectomy were first practiced?

Or you have RA. I knew someone in her 30's who drove a Subaru for just that reason, heated seat.
Oh? I missed the part where support for 95% of the hardware that people try to use was removed.
They already did. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/W...
