The only problem with that is: Good luck finding a frequency doubler that can handle that kind of input power. The best frequency doubling crystals I know of can handle at best a few dozen watts of laser power before melting. Also, because frequency doubling crystals don't have anything near 100% efficiency, you're talking about turning a tactical laser into (at best) an expensive, albeit high power laser pointer. Anyone with a superior knowledge of optics care to comment?
Actually, while I'll agree with you that the latest research doesn't support any prophylactic effect from taking vitamin C for colds and the like, I'm going to disagree with your conclusion.
Vitamin C does have a number of effects that make it worth taking during a cold or flu. Biochemically, vitamin C has a number of roles, such as deactivating histamine, which is one of the causes of feeling sick when you're sick, and it plays a major role in free radical clean up.
When you're sick, your immunocytes are attacking the invading pathogen with such wonderful enzymes as myeloperoxidase, which take hydrogen peroxide (produced in the oxidative burst) and turn it into HOCl (bleach) in order to kill the pathogen. This process spews reactive oxygen species (free radicals). When the ROSs interact with your cells, they cause damage, which leads to cytokine release and mast cell degranulation. Mast cells are the primary histamine releasers. So, not only is Vitamin C involved in the cleaning up of free radicals (in that vitamin C will quench the free radical, by itself becoming a free radical, albeit a safer and more stable one), but it also deactivates histamine.
Additionally, if you'd care to do the research, most of the studies showing megavitamin therapy (in the case of vitamin C) to be ineffective have either been performed by those with an interest in showing that it's ineffective (i.e. the drug companies), or had indeterminate conclusions.
Much more research needs to be done on the subject, but since the only problem with (oral, at least) vitamin C therapy seems to be osmotic diarrhea at more than 2g/day intake, in my opinion, there is no reason not use it for this purpose.
I'd make sure you're getting enough Essential Fatty Acids. Flax seed oil (ALA, EPA, DHA) is an omega-3 fatty acid complex that will help reduce your inflammatory load.
There is a good deal of evidence that taking Conjugated Linoleic Acids (CLA's -- specifically the Trans-10, Cis-12 or T10-C12 form) will actually help you lose weight. It does this by causing your preadipocytes to die (apoptose), before they can become fat cells. There is also good evidence that it helps keep fat cells from filling. And it probably (although the evidence isn't as solid) forces fat cells to empty.
Either way, you need to also make sure you're getting antioxidants (resveratrol, selenium, etc...)

in general, the vast majority of sad iPods are caused by falls damaging the spinning disk.
I used to deal with dead iPods daily, and I saw this kind of thing all the time.
It actually is quite difficult to kill an iPod, as it requires a confluence of circumstances, including it being on, having the disk spinning, and then dropping it at just the right angle.
Obviously, as the force of impact increases (be it from a fall, etc...), the number of requirements to render it dead, goes down .
But, in general, this is my experience... however, I have also seen a number of more creative ways of iPod death.
But that's another post.:)
It's like you're comparing apples and......... PC's!
Actually, I use IE, Safari, Firefox, and Opera, for quite some time, and the only browser I've ever had issues with is IE.
Just my $2x10^-2
I realize that everyone thinks that being able to run osX on the same machine with windowsXP is cool, or good for productivity, but there's something about this that screams unholy union to me.
Anyone else feel the same?
until some company uses these techniques to discover that google has cached some confidential info and then sues the pants off google?

The PPC platform isn't dying. There are still some new PPC products in the pipeline, and when the intel based macs come out, there won't be a noticible difference for the end user, as all apps will include both X86 and PPC binary code.
If you always wait for the next best computer to come out, you'll never own a computer.
The transition to the new processor chipset should be invisible to the end user, and software will continue to support both chipsets for the forseeable future.
As one who has likewise been playing Final Fantasy games for quite some time, might I make an observation?
Although many are split on the quality of the games Squaresoft / Square-Enix has produced, can you deny that they have sold well?
How many people who have played the games, can deny that they saw FF:The Spirits Within. Even if they didn't like it, many saw it anyway. These same people are likely drooling at the prospect of seeing Advent Children.
I also don't really put much stock in death predictions, particularly not of this subject matter. I point to the profitability of the franchise and the potential to make games released under the title of Final Fantasy in various different genres, as is already being promised as companion titles to Advent Children.
I think as long as Square-Enix makes it, players will play it.

...but is anyone else concerned by the fact that the combination of ATI + AMD spells DAMIT?

So now I can almost play Doom 3.

That maybe this proves it's time for politicians who make decisions to start listening to those in the know. It'll be better for everyone in the end.
