    Start with the cheapest backend that'll get the system up and running, then use your supercomputer to mine Bitcoins for a few days, then use all the money you'll make to buy the InfiniBand backend (you'll probably have enough money left over to buy Monster cables to hook everything up).

    Big difference: Stephen Hawking can't take pills to make himself better, they can. If they decide not to, they deserve to be sneered at.

    ... it's obviously complete and utter bollocks, because this makes absolutely no sense. Turning the TV off doesn't stop the TV broadcast.

    I turned the TV off and the pain stops... works especially well when watching commercial channels.

    I'd rather see the money earned by a few hedge fund managers than distributed to all. Hedge fund managers spend the money in local restaurants which helps our economy. Your average Joe would just use the money to buy another iPod and the money ends up in China.

    ...but there is no reason the tax code should benefit the well off and corps as much as it does.

    Of course there is a reason... they paid for it. Instead of griping about how unfair the system is, why not buy yourself a tax concession? It's surprisingly inexpensive. For $20,000 (less than the average American spends on Starbucks coffee in their lifetime) you can get your Congressman to earmark something for you in the next omnibus bill.

    I thought civilization had to do with agriculture and an end to being total nomads, so one could build a city.

    Civilization is defined by the use of monetary instruments. The more advanced the civilization, the closer they are to using Bitcoins.

    Gold, silver and platinum are scattered all over the earth waiting to be found, and each new find drives down the price of that commodity. Bitcoins, on the other hand, exist only in the Earth's molten interior and in a fixed quantity and are therefore more valuable than the "so-called" precious metals (not to mention the euro and the dollar).
