  1. Mod the parent up!!! on Study Finds Bank of America SiteKey is Flawed · · Score: 1

This is exactly what I experience with sitekey. Besides when they implemented it they made several other security blunders. First the login page where you enter your user name does not have security certificate and is not encrypted. There is no real way for the user to verify that this is authentic BofA website. You can find an SSL encripted login page with proper certifcate but you have to folow links through two other pages to get there. Second they ask you for the user name first (because of Sitekey) and not fo user name/password combination. If you enter a wrong user name they tell you about that!!! Any scrpt kiddie can now start colecting BofA logins and they don't even need to phish for them. It also leaves by default a http cookie (which is easy to get rid of) and a flash cookie (which most users don't even now exists).

No they don't. At least in the facility in Glendale CA, they are running it on fully functional desktops. I was there two weeks ago and witnessed a confused doctor having difficulties accessing my daughter's records and apologizing for the new system.

One way is the 'forced swim test'. They put the mouse in a water tank from which it can't escape. The animal will normaly swim around trying to find a way out. If it is depressed it will tend to give up on swiming and spend long periods of time without moving. Another way is the 'tail suspension test'. It is prety much the same thing. The mouse is suspended on its tail. If it is depressed it won't give a shit about life and will just hang there. Give it some antidepresenats and it will move and try to escape a lot more actively.

Now, the question becomes whether you can extract 1/3 of the value of the PC in parts. Transmeta has a press release on the subject. Here is a quote from the press release: "The specialized microprocessor is an enhanced version of Transmeta's 90 nanometer Efficeon microprocessor that includes instruction set extensions developed with Microsoft to support the FlexGo technology, which enables both pay-as-you-go and subscription computing models in emerging markets. This new Efficeon processor provides a secure foundation for Microsoft's FlexGo technology and associated business models. The design of the processor offers robust protection from repurposing and protects the business investment in subsidized systems."

  7. The problem with Bio WMD... on Advances in Bio-weaponry · · Score: 0

... is that they tend to turn arround and bite whoever made them. Litteraly. One needs very expensive containment facilities and well trained personel to develop bioweapons. If a terrorist tries to cook something of this sort in his kitchen with equipment from e-bay, he will be the first to get infected. Now it is very difficult to use any weapon if you are dead, isn't it?

  8. Because they cost me on Why Do You Block Ads? · · Score: 1

I am paying for intrenet access, and the adds are gobbling the bandwith that I am paying for. The more anoying and distracting the ads (flash, blinking images, video!) the more they cost me. Simle as that. I don't mind the ads that my (regular) mail box gets filled with everyday, but guess what, I am not paying postage charges for them. I don't block google ads, they are small, related to what I am looking for and don't get between me and the webpage that I am trying to read. And yes, i am not buying magasines and newspapers that are overloaded with ads. It doesn't make sense to spend 30 mins weeding ads to get to the news. And before you ask I also have a DVR because I am paying for cable, not for viagra ads. Go sue me.

  9. Go back and read some more on RNAi Technology on Nanomaterials Used in Possible Cancer Cure · · Score: 3, Interesting

I can't believe that this comment was scored 5,Informative. It is totaly misleading. The RNA:RNA hybrid does not scream "virus". In fact it goes under the "virus radar" and does not elicit the interferone responce. A more acurate description would be that it hijacks a mechanism that is used in generation of small regulatory RNAs (micro or miRNAs) and results in cleavage of the targed. The biggest achievement of this research is the delivery system which looks very efficient and is the best alternative to virus vectors so far. As for the use of RNAi in any therapy, I have my reservations. The reason is that these RNAs can and do work as miRNAs and thus are not as selective towards their targets as people would like to think. As a result they will perturb the expression of multiple genes in addition to their target.

  10. Lot's of problems with the "therapy" on Gene Therapy Ages Human Cancer Cells in Lab · · Score: 1

You need the telomerase in virtualy any cell that is dividing. Unless you are able to specificaly target the cancer cells you will end with no reproductive system, no immune system and no abillity to heal wounds and regenerate tissue. In case you still not get it, you will not die from cancer, you will die from infections rotting your open wounds. Oh, and forget about kids. Enjoy! On the other hand if you can target cancer cells there are a whole lot of less sophisticated therapies wich do not involve "injecting genes".

No it is not! You can't extract much information on the persons health, genetic predispositions, family links etc from a fringerprint or a mugshot. With DNA profile you can easily do that. It can get realy unpleasant when you try to get health insurance for example (oh no sir! Preexisting conditions are not covered. Sorry.)
