    I agree.

A FLOP is a FLOATING-POINT operation. Which is a lot different from just a mathematical operation. ANDing two bits together is probably a mathematical operation, but it is NOT a FLOP. FLOPs involve 32bits at least, maybe 64.

Its quite easy to fit more than 700MB on an 80minute CD as long as you dont use all the error correcting data. Thats how SVCDs and VCDs are created. And since the files are MPEGs, thats probably where they are destined for.

If you don't even know what games there are for the system, how can you know what system you are going to buy? It's all in the games, man.

If price is your main criteria, I've got a nice 1st generation nintendo system you might be interested in. Or maybe this used Playstation sitting over here.

The games are the main thing you should determine the games system on.

A dozen or so simulataneous downloads? Dont think that is going to help prevent the slashdor effect. Though I guess that is getting tested right now!

Farscape is not being shown in Canada, so the only way I can get it is via edonkey. Works out quite well. The shows are about 350MB, which doesn't really take that long to download. And I have a laptop with TV-out, so I can watch the show on the big screen with the rest of the family.

Apparently there was supposed to be a deal with YTV in Canada, but it never happened. And this way I can watch the shows at my leisure, and in order (very important).

And yes, I guess I was referring to the Rockies as "mountainous", sorry.

The point I was trying to make is that the sight angle to the top of an N story building, is greater than driving beside most mountains.

Also this will allow you to stay tuned to the same station (if you find one you like) for the entire trip.

I guess the question is where they park the satellite.

  12. Re:Why it's no good for me (& many others) on Satellite Radio Is Officially Here · · Score: 2, Interesting

From the HowStuffWorks site, the repeaters are for urban areas, not for mountainous areas. Not that Boston to Montreal is really "mountainous". Because of the urban canyons created by tall buildings, the satellite signals can be blocked. In wide open country the signal should be fine. Once you get back in the urban canyons of Montreal, you might run into signal issues.

It's portable data storage that does not need a computer to function. What's simpler than that? You decide what you want to do with it.

Got MP3s? Use it as a central storage for MP3s.

Got a digital camera? Use it to store and display digital images.

Need to transfer large files between users? Load 'em up and go.

If it only did one thing, people would not buy it. "I'd buy it, but it doesn't do XYZ."

By the way... Palm doesn't do just one thing. It's programmable. It does whatever you need it to do (within it's cpu capabilities).

Nope, it's a continually random signal. If you just stood in one plce, the GPS actually thought you were moving due to the random error. One second you're here... few seconds later you're over there.

Some GPS's would try to determine when you were not moving, then try to average out the error, but it was still just an average.
