That last sentence should read: As far as locking out windows, many free software geeks are salivating at the thought of delivering systems that can't easily be reformatted with windows.
basically, yes. The issue is that represents quite a hurdle for the non technical users ubuntu is going for. As far as locking out Linux, many free software geeks are salivating at the thought of delivering systems that can't easily be with windows.
Why not both. If you see perceive something as injustice it seems silly to keep your mouth closed until you can find just the right person to blame. If apple is abusing the patent system then they should be held accountable in the public opinion.
Hi, AC, notice how the timestamps are 1 minute apart between my response above and the other AC? Slashdot doesn't let you post that fast. Find another boogeyman and pull the tinfoil a little tighter.
The stats from just one website, in this case your employer's, are meaningless. I'm not sure what combination of words I have to use to make it plain to you why that is the case. Is English your first language as I can give it a shot in some other tongue if that is necessary.
That's still a sample size of 1 though. What is your site about? If you were running a site about the latest Apple rumors then you would expect lots of Safari visitors, if the site is some kind of business vertical then you would expect lots of IE. If it is a site like Slashdot with a large tech literate contingent you would expect lots of Chrome and Firefox.
The Android browser does not represent itself as Chrome unless you actually install Chrome. And even then it represents itself as Chrome on Android so, no, StatCounter did not count Android in their stats.
How is this a hate session? StatCounter released some statistics, Microsoft questioned their methodology and StatCounter politely defended themselves. If anybody is inciting "hate" it is you.
I think if publishers would release their software as an RPM package that conforms to the LSB standard and have all assets/libraries/binaries go into/opt with the icon in/usr/share/icons and the.desktop file in/usr/share/applications and make sure to bundle up all libraries necessary for the application to run then the problem would be solved. That's just my take.
Since games like shadow gun run on Android and make use if the unity engine, want unity essentially 'ported' to Linux anyway? I mean I'm sure it is native code on Android and not just Java.
If you want Linux to ever be a remotely viable third choice on the desktop then proprietary software will be a given. If Android eschewed the presence of closed source apps it would be a non starter. Personally I don't have a problem with proprietary applications as long as the underlying operating system is Free. If the open source community isn't delivering for a particular niche then let the closed source people step in and first class games is a perfect example of this dynamic. If the community then steps up like has happened in so many other areas of software then even better but until that happens, I'll happily use unity on my Linux box right alongside my nvidia driver.
Now that the engine is ported, how much additional effort is required by the developer to make their game run on Linux? A lot? A little? I'm readily curious.
I'm actually reading this on almost that exact setup. For added joy ditch the mouse for a multi touch trackpad. I use the Apple one myself. You get punch zoom etc. Highly recommended.
I concur with how terrible AMD support is with their Linux graphics card drivers. On my main office desktop, I'm running an ATI 4890 and the 2D acceleration is so bad I had to just turn compiz off and go to a non composited desktop. I've never had that problem with nVidia.
The people who support your ideal are the good guys, the people who don't are the bad guys.
This is moral relativism patronization. Didn't these kind of theories get debunked a few years ago? And can you give a concise view of how exactly this applies to the current situation and not just some shit you're flinging on the wall to sound oh so hipster cynical cool?
The issue I have always had was the double standard that a lot of people in the Open Source Community have. It is OK to pirate Closed Source tool, but if a company breaks a rule in the GPL they should be fully punished. That is the most damaging part, because in order for the GPL to be respected the GPL community needs to respect the other Licenses out there.
This is so far in the camp of oxymoron as to be a caricature. You cannot be a serious GPL supporter and advocate infringing proprietary software. Of course Slashdot stopped being an Oasis of common sense long ago so I fully expect your FUD to make it to +5 and me to get modded to oblivion.
If it is perceived that Google phones are insecure or too-costly to own, Microsoft phones could easily win over the consumers just as Microsoft browser convinced people to switch from Netscape browser in the late 90s/early 2000s.
Except people didn't switch to Internet Explorer because they perceived Netscape as too costly or insecure. By the time Netscape had lost it was due to the fact that IE was being bundled with windows as the default and Netscape 4 was a catastrophe. Furthermore, the market forces in play right now between the competing smartphone platforms is very different than what were at play during the (first) browser wars. There is no specific parallel that can be drawn between the two that isn't also general between any other competitive products so your post brings absolutely nothing to the table as far as new or novel information. Please stop posting stupidity to me. Thanks.
sure, they help you avoid the chinese knowing what you are searching for. but you still can't search for it!
Why do people run their mouths when they have no idea what they are talking about? As can be plainly seen in this screenshot, it is quite clear that you can search for it by simply clicking the "search anyway" link. Google is just being helpful and letting you know that you are probably going to not be able to get much of a response and it is out of their control.
I blame it on lack of coffee.
How do you presume they build their own laptops and x86 tablets?

Does only the kernel need signing or is there more to it than that for Linux?

That was pretty funny.

There is no solution to malware. That's what's so great about it. Give that some thought.

I think he's saying you can only send photo attachments but you can receive things other than photos. No contradiction at all.
As always, the ever resourceful TeamDouche and Cyanogenmod are on it.
