These guys test out the board/cpu/ram for you. I haven't had any problems with mine which I have had for almost a month.
My only problem is noise. I got the ThermalTake Volcano II because it was listed as the lowest decibals. But both those fans running are still horrendously loud.
And no one post any bullshit condeming all religions and the typical comments we get on slashdot about religious people being sheep. It doesn't float.
Quite the contrary. Individual sheople float very well. It is when they all group together in ignorance and panic that they start pulling each other under the waves.
Often dragging bystanders and those who try to help with them.
Is that what the little plastic thingies on the end are called?
No, the grommets are the holes the shoelace is threaded through.
I remember seeing a snigglet for the plastic tips, but I have never been able to remember it, nor discover it. I'm surprised there isn't an online db of all the snigglets(words that should exist).
This way you can easily cut and paste into an scp command.
Also, I use underline for the machine name so that it stands out to mor easily see which machine you are on. I also set underlined chars to show up as yellow in my color xterms(black bg, cyan text). --
I installed slackware a long time ago simply so I could better learn UNIX by having control of the whole system rather than a university user account on a sun.
Plus I liked the GNU tools. Prior to installing slackware I was using DJGPP, the DOS port of gcc which also came with DOS ports of GNU stuff like less and grep. RHIDE rocked too.

CS vs CIS
·
· Score: 1
CIS means you waste your life rebooting windows machines for people.
CS means you can be a good programmer.
Not saying CIS people can't learn how computers really work or how to program. It's just a lot less likely.
And those going after CS just for the money really annoy me.
My cousin was just telling me the other day that his school counselor told him he should go into computers, not due to any particular ability, just because the money is good. So I told him he should actually take a programming course and see if he enjoys it.
I think a lot of people miss the point that programmers are programmers primarily by nature, not nurture.
Our sci-fi-loving/math/problem-solving brains our just wired differently.

Just posting a positive comment since I see so many negative ones.
Yes, I'm your typical computer/math/science geek who played AD&D in highschool and college.
It wasn't amazing but it was definately worth seeing. And if a movie entertained me I think that is reason enough to say it did not suck.
Hopefully the folks making Lord of the Rings will take some lessons from what worked well and what did not. --
The moral is : a good affordable computer design CAN make a differnce in 3rd world countries.
My how times have changed when Russia is considered a 3rd world country. Although you have to admit that 'N world country' is one of the worst-defined terms in the language. --
This was actually done at one point by one of the VM guys. I was trying to figure out how to do it so that I could set up my old crappy RAM as a ramdisk and set it to be the swap. That way the faster RAM is used first. --
port sentry will permanently block any IP that scans us
From all the research I did on the topic, plus a good discussion on firewall-wizards, this isn't generally considered to be a good idea. What if someone forges the scan packets to be coming from your machine's gateway? They can hose your server relatively easily. Granted Mr. Rowland(portsentry author) says in practice this doesn't happen(noone has reported people DOS'ng them when using portsentry in this manner), but I think the best policy is to respond to scanning by blocking only on less secure test boxen and workstations. For live production servers(especially a large portal website) responding to scans/attacks like that it is a DOS risk, albeit slight, and also could prevent some of your potential clients from accessing the site(attack through AOL proxy?). I just block everything except the minimal services my servers provide (e.g. ssh and apache) and concentrate on securing those apps. Then I can pretty much ignore portscans. --
Have to get my favs in too, :)
