Honestly, I don't blame them...I was in the Army and frequently I was worried with some of the risk taking. Now that I'm out and working in IT I just had a customer purchase a "refurbished" laptop from China and we had to spend hours removing rootkits and trojans from it (maybe not the norm, but still worrying). It's simply not worth the risk, especially when dealing with something as important as defense.
Being in the military, I can assure you those are all run from either a network called "Centrix" (If it's a shared asset with other nations), or SIPR...and neither of those are connected to the internet like NIPR is.
Even in sdoftware - or pharmaceutical companies where one would assume that a lot is spent for research the R&D budget is usual ~18% (which varies, of course) while sales and marketing usually eats away approx. half of the costs.
Sales, marketing and distribution is horrendously expensive and gets a far bigger chunk of the budget then R&D.
Couldn't that also mean they do more marketing than research & development?

WRONG! Over 99% of software is written either exclusively for Windows or supports it...Apple's small selection of software tends to not only be restrictive and expensive, but also no more functional than it's Windows counterparts.
Sure, there may be 10x more contenders for various tools (like DVD rippers, editing software, etc.) but the best in class is on the Mac.
Opinion, and not even a good one at that.
And it keeps getting better all the time due to technologies like Core Data, and Core Image, (and now Core Animation)
Old technology just now reaching the Mac...
that means that one person developing for the Mac can produce something that would take ten people to do the same on Windows.

Games...try playing all your favorite games on a Mac or Linux system...
Yes maybe one or two work but that's it, Windows has a monopoly on games at this point.
But then again...what if you want to reboot only once every year...try that on Windows...
Can't think of anything Mac only at the moment...
We're talking about complete root control of a system versus changing content on a webserver...one could confuse users of an existing site or send malicious mails, the other could start up 100 mail and webservers on the box in question, distribute any content it wants then disable the computer because of operating system vulnerabilities. One could then compromise all the other windows boxes on said computers network since XP's default behavior is to trust any computer it's on a LAN with all without ever alerting the user. The point is inherent vulnerabilities that should never have existed in the first place, not whether questionable third party software has introduced new ones.
Too true! I nearly forgot about all the fun I had back in the day fending off injection attacks in my add account script. I've found that google is your friend on this issue since one can easily google "secure php" and choose from hundreds of tutorials on how to do so.
I'd be interested in knowing how many of those are from actual Kernel/OS vulnerabilities and how many are from people using an old version of apache. From what I understand security issues in apache are fairly consistent across operating systems. If this were the case then the operating system would not be to blame...this article is about nested botnets on users computers not a vulnerability that allows you to change content on someone's website.

The only reason people buy them is because they're pretty and they heard from a friend that they're easier to use (Read : Less Options). Macintosh fanboys always list off the same weak reasons for switching and they're always wrong.
Games...try playing all your favorite games on a Mac or Linux system... Yes maybe one or two work but that's it, Windows has a monopoly on games at this point.
But then again...what if you want to reboot only once every year...try that on Windows...
Can't think of anything Mac only at the moment...
This is true...I hear Solid Snake never fully recovered...
Maybe because Nintendo is making enough of them?
OOOHH!!! Burned!
Cingular Prepaid (Go Phones) are most likely the way to go if they cover your area. They use sim cards and the phones and cards are swappable with eachother if you decide on a plan later on...if you buy one of those 20 dollar phones and take the sim out (or you might be able to get one at a cingular store) you could slide it into one of these phones.
