FYI:
I am not on a MAC. What about linux? One of my publishers only runs linux. The benefit of OOo is ability to communicate with everyone, no matter what platform or program they are using. This makes moot the idea that you have to use Microsoft if you want to communicate with others. That was the import of my post.
Before I had OOo, I had MS Office. One of my contacts sent me an interview in their Mac processor format (whatever that is) and I was unable to open it with office, now I can open it.
As far as Macs are concerned, I haven't used an Apple since I was programming BASIC on a IIe back in the day.
really hate to sound like a troll and all, but if 98% of the business world continues to use MS formated documents, MS formats will remain the defacto standard. Being able to communicate is critical in today's world.
That's why I use Open Office. If I used MS Office, I could only sent MS documents, which doesn't help when a publisher is on a Mac.
Since when is physics uncool? When I was in school, I wasn't a jock, but I wasn't a geek either and physics was cool because it is science where you actually get to "do" something. Physics allowed me to blow stuff up for school credit. What's cooler than chaos for credit?
I would say that the Earth's ecology is more like a pendulum. It is a self-adjusting mechanism, when shoved too far in one direction- it swings back the other way. The harder it is pushed, the further and harder it swings. When left alone, it begins to settle. One day... when the pendulum is no longer pushed by the extinct human species, it may obtain real balance.
Sunline Transit, in Coachella Valley (Palm Springs and neighbors) California has been running hydrogen powered busses for years. Unfortunately, their website http://www.sunline.org/ is in a transition, however, their busses are part of a program at College of the Desert http://desert.cc.ca.us/Students/Academics/Communit yEducation/index.asp?id=189
which promotes alternative fuels. This is attainable for the U.S. as a whole, but it would upset the powers that be too much.
It was kind of an extrapolation, Brazil has the highest rate per capita of plastic surgery of any nation in the world.
(I would link to some studies to back that up, but time is of the essence.)
Actually, Brazil is not far from robotic players right now- consider their rate of plastic surgery per person- now combine that with yesterday's news of UTD research on chemically fired artificial muscles and there you go. One day, Barry Bonds may be seen as a man ahead of his time.
Can this be far off? The applications for Sci-Fi writing are enormous. 1st: This is motivated for military application (and thereby for the service of the "elite") 2nd: Does anyone think that your company insurance plan will be covering body transplants in the near future? 3rd: Who would be allowed access to quality parts?
p.s. Here is the UTD press release:

Isn't this like giving painkillers to a man with his hand stuck in the door. How about creating a simpler, less vulnerable product in the first place? It's like an automaker claiming to have great customer service because they repair new vehicles for free, when they could have just produced quality vehicles that do not need repairs.
IR interference makes some sense. It's too bad someone didn't think to bring a few media center remotes (or clones) and really play with them.;)
When I was a kid I had a remote control car that took off every time the blender was turned on.

I believe that was known as "Blade Runner".

Speaking as in individual who abhors "Friends" and its spinoff, I have heard the name "Chandler" one too many times. (shivers)

Might have been a traffic problem. I got to both of them on Firefox 1.0 with no problem.
