Windows 8 is an abomination as a desktop operating system. As of Windows 7 I would have said it was unlikely that I'd use anything else as my primary desktop, but after putting Win8 on my laptop at release (and leaving it there until now) there is no way I'll be switching to it on the rest of my PCs. (8.1 solves none of the real complaints)
I didn't bother reading past the point the author claims that pixel density and resolution are synonyms, when the patent at least in the summary appears to be using pixel density correctly.
Both Bach and Wagner are long dead, receive no royalties thus consuming their content doesn't fund their behaviour.
By consuming Card's works you both indirectly fund his activities attacking equal rights and by making him more successful you add to his ability to push his homophobic viewpoint at more people.
Except that they're only removing it from the Options window, not from the browser? (e.g. it will be in about:config where all the advanced tweaks are)
Unfortunately these are largely cosmetic changes and won't fix what many users (particularly those of us found on slashdot) actually have an issue with. There are a few concessions to regular users who need visual hints like a start button, however for the power user virtually everything wrong with Windows 8 is wrong with Windows 8.1. An OS designed for touch devices shoehorned onto everything in a vain attempt to make users familiar with it so they'll choose Microsoft for the phone and tablet purchases.
Not to mention they're introducing a search behaviour which sends terms out to the Internet, just like Canonical has done with Ubuntu. I'm surprised about the lack of outcry about the privacy implications.
Now that I've angered the Windows-8 fanbase I'll irritate everyone else - unfortunately in my estimation the only desktop alternative is KDE while still clunky it is superior to OSX (design predicated on a stupid user), Unity (OSX clone), Gnome (also predicated on a dumb user) while the remainder are missing modern features.
Because we don't need an entire screen when searching for one application? I frequently will continue reading/looking at something while using the start menu to open a command prompt or similar.
Note where Apple collects the stats from.... the app store. It stands to reason that users with older hardware are probably less active users and will be under represented.
Or you could make it easy and allow a user the ability to report a device tied to their account as lost/stolen, then Apple can simply render the device useless by refusing logins, syncs, etc.
I've used FIrefox from 0.1, and the only time I've ever run into huge memory consumption was with Adobe's PDF plugin. Look at any comparison and you'll find Firefox uses significantly less memory than other browsers (Chrome often needs double the amount.)
Exactly, new expensive games compete with older games that you can buy at a discount. Artificially inflate the price of older games and that will decrease the need to be price competitive on new games.
You're making excuses for Steam, many stores sell off slightly older titles at a steep discount. If Microsoft goes this route I won't buy their system any more than I will buy a game on Steam.
Github also had to discontinue file downloads for the simple fact that people abused it and used the service as a way to distribute content unrelated to the open source material.
Ironically though Microsoft's apparently draconian complicated half-revealed scheme for controlling the second-hand game market still offers more freedom than Steam.
Really, who cares about Disqus? I immediately added a filter for them to adblock when I noticed a suggested thread 'Soandsos baby mama' on the AngularJS API docs.
Anyone the least bit privacy conscious should be blocking Disqus along with G+, Facebook, Twitter, etc. on their party sites.
I can't but help think this decision is largely irrelevant to the majority of Ubuntu users. Unless I've somehow missed the news of Linux taking over the mainstream desktop, most users are technically savvy and undoubtedly already have their own browser preference and the knowledge to install it rendering discussions of upgrade paths largely irrelevant.
Sure Firefox users may dislike the extra step, but on the otherhand Chromium users will presumably be pleased that they no longer need to install it afterwards.
Widely known fact. Taking pictures using a tablet announces to the world that the user is a colossal dork.

It's dual licensed you insensitive clod!
How is an unreleased car at 7 times the cost and a smaller ranger "better"?

Erm Chrome actually uses the most memory while Firefox uses the least.

That article is only marginally better, it doesn't even mention a price or any hardware details beyond the screen resolution?

So compare the same usage scenario in another browser.
Eh? Firefox actually uses the least memory of all browsers.
they needed to euthanize animals, they were going to use that money to sue anonymous people on the Internet.

They move the income on paper to countries with 0% corporate taxes.

Maybe they can bundle Firefox's pdf.js ...
